Forward and backward fuzzy rule base interpolation using fuzzy geometry

Publication Name: Iranian Journal of Fuzzy Systems

Publication Date: 2023-05-01

Volume: 20

Issue: 3

Page Range: 127-146

Description:

Fuzzy rule interpolation (FRI) predicts an accountable outcome of a possible course of action in sparse fuzzy rule base system (FRBS). The geometry based linear fuzzy rule interpolation (GLFRI) is extended for multi-dimensional fuzzy rule base interpolation. Expansion/contraction (EC) of triangular, trapezoidal and complex polygonal fuzzy sets has been also proposed which enables the proposed FRI method to incorporate with fuzzy rules which include triangular, trapezoidal, hexagonal or complex fuzzy sets. The study further extends to introduce the process of backward rule base interpolation. It has been shown that the scale and move transformation-based FRI method can yield a non-convex fuzzy consequent which can be avoided by using the proposed method. The proposed method performs better without any risk of obtaining non-convex fuzzy consequent. The efficiency of proposed forward and backward FRI methods is projected with several numerical examples. A detailed comparison of EC transformation with scale and move transformation is also presented here.

Screening of Domestic Cats from North-Eastern Hungary for Hepatozoon felis and Cytauxzoon europaeus That Cause Infections in Local Wildcat Populations

Publication Name: Pathogens

Publication Date: 2023-05-01

Volume: 12

Issue: 5

Page Range: Unknown

Description:

Among vector-borne protozoa Hepatozoon felis and Cytauxzoon europaeus are considered emerging species in felids in Europe. To investigate the presence of these two protozoa 127 domestic cats and 4 wildcats were screened by PCRs targeting the 18S rRNA gene of Hepatozoon spp. and piroplasms, as well as the cytb gene of Cytauxzoon spp. The samples were collected inside and outside a region of Hungary, where both protozoan groups are endemic in wildcats. Among domestic cats, one proved to be infected with H. felis. Furthermore, spleen samples of four wildcats were also examined, among which three tested positive for H. felis, and one had co-infection with C. europaeus. Importantly, H. felis from the co-infected wildcat belonged to genogroup II, similarly to H. felis from the positive domestic cat. Based on phylogenetic evidence, this genogroup probably represents a separate species from genogroup I of H. felis, which was hitherto reported from Mediterranean countries in Europe. The two other wildcats also harbored H. felis from genogroup I. Neither Hepatozoon nor Cytauxzoon infections were detected outside the recently discovered endemic region. In conclusion, this study demonstrates for the first time in Europe that H. felis from genogroup II may emerge in free-roaming domestic cats in regions where this protozoan parasite is endemic in wildcats.

Effect of pore size and temperature on the behaviour of alpha-lactalbumin and the A and B genetic variants of beta-lactoglobulin during protein fractionation microfiltration

Publication Name: Food Hydrocolloids

Publication Date: 2025-03-01

Volume: 160

Issue: Unknown

Page Range: Unknown

Description:

The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of membrane pore size and filtration temperature on six individual milk protein fractions (αS-CN, β- CN, κ-CN, α-LA, β-LG A, β-LG A) during the protein fractionation microfiltration process. Pasteurised skimmed milk was microfiltrated using two different pore sizes of spiral-wound membranes, with pore sizes of 0.2 μm and 0.5 μm, at temperatures of 15 °C and 45 °C respectively. The microfiltration process was carried out with a final volume reduction of 66% and a diafiltration volume of 120% (300 L) of the original feed (250 L). It was observed that neither the pore size nor the filtration temperature significantly (p < 0.05) affected the permeation of the α-LA fraction. However, the permeation of the β-LG A and β-LG B fractions can be influenced by membrane pore size and filtration temperature, and the behaviour of the three whey protein fractions, A and B genetic variants of the β-LG and α-LA fractions differs significantly during the microfiltration process. The results of this study could form the basis for the development of new, unique tailor-made milk protein ingredients.

Data-driven deep learning for predicting ligament fatigue failure risk mechanisms

Publication Name: International Journal of Mechanical Sciences

Publication Date: 2025-09-01

Volume: 301

Issue: Unknown

Page Range: Unknown

Description:

The pathogenesis of musculoskeletal disorders is closely associated with the cumulative damage and fatigue failure behavior of fibrous connective tissues under long-term repetitive loading. However, significant technological challenges remain in real-time dynamic monitoring of ligament fatigue life, particularly the lack of efficient computational mechanics modeling frameworks and precise assessment tools adaptable to real-world movement scenarios. The multimodal integrated framework for ligament fatigue life assessment was proposed in this study. First, the high-accuracy subject-specific musculoskeletal models were developed based on individualized medical imaging data. A coupled hyperelastic-viscoelastic constitutive model was incorporated to accurately characterize the nonlinear mechanical behavior of ligamentous tissues and their fatigue damage evolution under cyclic loading. Furthermore, by integrating continuum damage mechanics theory, a time-dependent cumulative damage evolution equation was established to systematically quantify the coupling relationship between fatigue failure probability and dynamic mechanical loading. In the data-driven prediction module, an innovative deep-learning model that integrates kinematic-dynamic coupling was developed. By integrating wearable inertial measurement units, the model enables real-time inversion of ligament loading force-fatigue failure states and prediction of fatigue life. This approach effectively overcomes the limitations of traditional mechanical modeling in long-term, multi-scenario dynamic monitoring, achieving high-precision and minimally invasive fatigue life evaluation of ligaments. The proposed computational framework breaks the static-loading constraints of conventional fatigue testing, achieving the dynamic biomechanical analysis and fatigue life prediction under real movement conditions. This work not only provides novel theoretical insights into the mechanisms and modeling of ligament fatigue damage, but also provides a generalizable tool for biomechanical injury prevention, rehabilitation planning, and soft tissue fatigue analysis in the musculoskeletal system.

Publication Name: Sustainability Switzerland

Publication Date: 2023-04-01

Volume: 15

Issue: 7

Page Range: Unknown

Description:

HPWS is currently perceived as potential source of the competitive skills, capabilities and knowledge of human resources. This study aim to illustrate how high-performance work systems (HPWS) offer the foundation for strategic business performance (SBP) through the mediating function of organizational flexibility and contextualizing manufacturing firms of developing countries by providing an empirically tested framework for analyzing SBP. The current study is based on a quantitative research design. Data were gathered from manufacturing firms from the top, middle and operational management firms. SEM was used to analyze our 589 samples. Findings revealed that HPWS is the only component aiding manufacturing firms’ growth. The results illustrate that HPWS will take a long time to achieve SBP if organisational flexibility does not mediate the relationship between HPWS and SBP. Utilizing actual data, this study reveals practical strategies for enhancing the mechanism of business development performance among manufacturing organizations. Furthermore, this research helps to understand the relationship between HPWS and organizational flexibility in attaining SBP.

The ACTN3 R577X Nonsense Allele Is Underrepresented in Professional Volleyball Players and Associated with an Increased Risk of Muscle Injury in Female Players

Publication Name: Genes

Publication Date: 2025-09-01

Volume: 16

Issue: 9

Page Range: Unknown

Description:

Background: Muscle injuries pose a significant challenge in sports, leading to decreased performance and shortened career longevity. Individuals homozygous for the nonsense X allele of the ACTN3 rs1815739 (R577X) polymorphism, characterized by a complete absence of α-actinin-3, have been associated with reduced power performance and may have an increased injury risk. This study aimed to investigate the association between the ACTN3 R577X polymorphism and both volleyball player status and the risk of non-contact musculoskeletal injuries in female volleyball players. Methods: The study included 5382 Turkish and Russian subjects of European descent (187 professional volleyball players and 5195 controls), of whom 50 female players provided injury data. Sport-related injury information was obtained from medical records maintained by team physicians and physiotherapists. Results: A pooled analysis of the two cohorts demonstrated that the frequency of the ACTN3 X allele was significantly lower in volleyball players than in controls, with an odds ratio of 0.763 (95% CI: 0.61–0.95, p = 0.02). In the pre-specified recessive contrast (XX vs. RR + RX) among 50 players, exact methods indicated higher injury odds for the XX genotype (OR = 7.87, 95% CI: 0.94–374.58; p = 0.0366), which was classified as borderline/exploratory. Penalized (Firth) regression produced estimates of a similar magnitude after adjustment for age and playing position (adjusted OR = 5.92, 95% CI: 1.12–60.98), although confidence intervals remained wide. Conclusions: The ACTN3 X allele is underrepresented in professional volleyball players, and it is associated with an increased risk of muscle injury in female players.

Artificial intelligence-based expert weighted quantum picture fuzzy rough sets and recommendation system for metaverse investment decision-making priorities

Publication Name: Artificial Intelligence Review

Publication Date: 2024-10-01

Volume: 57

Issue: 10

Page Range: Unknown

Description:

There should be some improvements to increase the performance of Metaverse investments. However, businesses need to focus on the most important actions to provide cost effectiveness in this process. In summary, a new study is needed in which a priority analysis is made for the performance indicators of Metaverse investments. Accordingly, this study aims to evaluate the main determinants of the performance of the metaverse investments. Within this context, a novel model is created that has four different stages. The first stage is related to the prioritizing the experts with artificial intelligence-based decision-making method. Secondly, missing evaluations are estimated by expert recommendation system. Thirdly, the criteria are weighted with Quantum picture fuzzy rough sets-based (QPFR) M-Step-wise Weight Assessment Ratio Analysis (SWARA). Finally, investment decision-making priorities are ranked by QPFR VIKOR (Vlse Kriterijumska Optimizacija Kompromisno Resenje). The main contribution of this study is the integration of the artificial intelligence methodology to the fuzzy decision-making approach for the purpose of computing the weights of the decision makers. Owing to this condition, the evaluations of these people are examined according to their qualifications. This situation has a positive contribution to make more effective evaluations. Organizational effectiveness is found to be the most important factor in improving the performance of metaverse investments. Similarly, it is also identified that it is important for businesses to ensure technological improvements in the development of Metaverse investments. On the other side, the ranking results indicate that regulatory framework is the most critical alternative in this regard.

Temperature-Dependent Ferromagnetic Loss Approximation of an Induction Machine Stator Core Material Based on Laboratory Test Measurements

Publication Name: Energies

Publication Date: 2023-02-01

Volume: 16

Issue: 3

Page Range: Unknown

Description:

The accurate measurement and modeling of ferromagnetic material losses are vital issues during the design and analysis of electrical machines. Higher loss values can describe the manufactured rotor and stator machine plates better than the catalog data obtained by standardized measurements using the Epstein frame. In this paper, different temperature-dependent models based on the loss-separation principle are introduced and compared with the measurements. The model parameters are computed from customized laboratory and standardized measurements. The customized measurements based on the stator part of an induction machine in the range of the automotive industry standard, i.e., in [−40 (Formula presented.) C, ⋯, 180 (Formula presented.) C]. The proposed model and measurement process can be used in the post-processing stage of numerical field analysis to obtain electromagnetic losses according to the agreement between measured and simulated results. During a numerically expensive optimization process, this model can be used to consider the temperature dependence of the losses more accurately. The study shows that more than 50% of loss increase can be measured, compared with the catalog data, if we use the manufactured, stator-based, customized measurements based on the estimation of the iron loss parameters.
