The starting point of a transport development project is knowledge on travel demand. If there is time and money for doing a detailed survey and passenger counting, we are able to build up detailed travel demand models. Usually this is not the case of the reality. Normally there is money and resources for some counting and maybe some surveying to clarify the demand data (e.g. OD matrix). There is always a discussion point; what is the needed size of the sample at a surveying, to be able to produce reliable data for OD matrix estimation. The paper deals with the issue of needed sample size and reliability of results.

“Tourist attitudes towards SDGS and sustainable development: Evidence from Armenia”

The paper aims to explore tourists’ perceptions and behaviors regarding sustainable tourism and sustainable development in Armenia. An online survey method was employed to collect data from 385 domestic tourists in Armenia from July to October 2024, enabling effcient and cost-effective access to a diverse respondent group. The sample size was determined based on a 95% confidence level and 5% margin of error, ensuring statistical reliability. The online format allowed for a broader reach and ano-nymity, making it suitable for exploring tourists’ knowledge of the SDGs, comprehen-sion of sustainable tourism, and willingness to embrace sustainable behaviors. Interestingly, despite only 46% of respondents being explicitly familiar with the SDGs, a significant proportion (64%) demonstrated knowledge of sustainable development, 62% understood sustainable tourism, and 64% believed tourism could positively impact sustainable development. Statistical analysis, specifically the Pearson Chi-Square test, revealed a strong correlation between knowledge of sustainable development and awareness of sustainable tourism, and tourists’ willingness to modify their travel habits and invest in eco-friendly options. Additionally, a sense of environmental responsibility was found to significantly influence the adoption of sustainable practices. Moreover, prioritizing sustainable tourism when selecting destinations strongly correlated with support for sustainable tourism initiatives. While many tourists acknowledged the importance of sustainable tourism, challenges such as limited information and higher costs hindered the adoption of eco-friendly behaviors. To promote sustainable tourism and contribute to achieving the SDGs, the study emphasizes the need for intensified awareness campaigns, accessible sustainable options, and collaborative efforts between the tourism industry, government, and tourists.

Systems Engineering (SE) is an engineering method that has rarely been applied in Automotive Product Development, despite its noticeable positive effects in other engineering fields. With increasing interests, firms and scholars have started to discover its impact in the segment, however internal hurdles appear when it comes to implementation practices at organisations across the industry. This paper presents a comprehensive guideline, results and good practices on the SE implementation, developed in Formula SAE (FSAE), which is a relevant model environment of automotive industry. The impact of applying SE show project results improvement in cost, time and quality aspects, although, the maturity of SE should be assessed at the system of systems level. Outcomes gained from FSAE have been validated by in-depth interviews with SE experts, engineers and managers affiliated at technical development departments of 4 different automotive OEMs. These practitioners provide evaluated practices as employee involvement, applying learning by doing, and playing with architectures relevant and feasible in industrial setting, however emphasized expected impeding factors as sluggishness and general resistance to organisational changes.

Bridges are indispensable structures vital to the operation of road and rail transportation networks. Crossing rivers and artificial waterways, however, presents a risk to their foundations due to scour actions. Scour is the number one cause for bridge failures and may occur beneath any bridge, large or small, with supports located within the waterway. This paper provides a summary of present scour detection and measurement equipment and associated assessment methodologies. In this regard, particular emphasis is placed on structural health monitoring better to evaluate the presence and influence of potential scour. A Sensitivity Analysis on a newly introduced monitoring system is also assumed. Furthermore, much research has been undertaken to create a technology that can instantly identify and detect bridge scour, improving survey reliability through prior inspection and prompt intervention. This research will explore and evaluate bridge scour detection methods employed and suggest a possible path for developing the detection system to identify scour depth effectively and efficiently. Finally, our key aim is to minimize human effort in identifying and bridge scour by using a quick, easy-to-use, cost-effective process, resulting in fewer injuries and economic savings.

The rapid development of digital technologies and their active implementation in all spheres of the economy, on the one hand, contribute to increased control over the activities of economic entities, and on the other hand, create new challenges associated with the dynamic development of cybercrime. The purpose of the article is to analyze the global trends in cybercrime in 2016-2023 (by calculating national levels of cybercrime) and to model the mechanisms of combating it in order to form a global, open and safe cyberspace, protect the population from cyber threats and cyber fraud, increase the effectiveness of financial monitoring procedures and control over transactions in cyberspace. The article presents the dominant directions, evolutionary, temporal and spatial patterns of the development of crime in cyberspace, clustering of the countries,and identification of leaders and outsiders in the field of cybercrime (through visualization density maps based on the construction of self-organized Kohonen maps). The results of the calculations confirm a significant increase in the level of cybercrime in the world since 2016 (in particular, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and active digital transformation). A comparative analysis of the indicator across countries made it possible to distinguish those with the highest rates of cybercrime (Slovenia, Iceland, Moldova, Georgia) and those with a significantly higher level of cyber security (Greece, Belgium, France, Germany).

Identification of ovine-associated staphylococci by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry

The objective of this study was to use matrix-assisted laser desorption ionisation–time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) for the identification of ovine-associated staphylococci. Presumptive Staphylococcus isolates were recovered from ovine udder surface (US), individual raw milk, bulk tank milk, and cheese samples and were characterised by conventional phenotypic methods. A total of 69 bacterial isolates were further confirmed by MALDI-TOF MS. Forty-two (60.9%) of 69 isolates were successfully identified on genus and species level. Two thirds (n 5 28) of the 42 identified isolates were shown to be Staphylococcus spp. These 28 staphylococcal isolates formed two clusters, one consisting of 22 Staphylococcus aureus strains and the other composed of 6 non-aureus staphylococci, including S. simulans (n 5 3), S. auricularis, S. equorum, and S. haemolyticus. MALDI-TOF MS has proven to be a reliable tool for the identification of staphylococci from raw sheep’s milk, especially bulk tank milk; however, currently it appears to be less useful for the identification of bacterial isolates originating from ovine US samples. This is the first study to evaluate the applicability of MALDI-TOF MS for identification of Staphylococcus spp. in ovine raw milk, cheese, and US samples in Hungary.

Traffic congestion causes significant economic and social consequences. Instant detection of vehicular traffic breakdown has a pivotal role in intelligent transportation engineering. Common traffic estimators and predictors systems need traffic observations to be classified in their binary-set-nature computation methods which are unable to be an effective base for traffic modeling, since they are defined by precise and deterministic characteristics while traffic is known to be a highly complex and nonlinear system, which may be prescribed by uncertain models containing vague properties. This study aims at applying a new fuzzy inference model for predicting the level of congestion in such heterogeneous and convoluted networks, where the paucity of accurate and real-time data can cause problems in interpreting the whole system state by conventional quantitative techniques. The proposed fuzzy inference model is based on real data extracted from Hungarian network of freeways. As input variables traffic flow and approximate capacity of each segment are considered and level of congestion is regarded as output variable. In the model, a total number of 75 rules were developed on the basis of available datasets, percentile distribution, and experts' judgments. Designed model and analyzing steps are simulated and proven by Matlab fuzzy logic toolbox. The results illustrate correlations and relationships among input variables with predicting the level of congestion based on available resources. Furthermore, performed analyses beside their tractability in dealing with ambiguity and subjectivity are aligned with intelligent traffic modeling purposes in designing traffic breakdown-related alert or early warning systems, infrastructure and services planning, and sustainability development.
