Effects of Single-Nucleotide Polymorphisms on the Estimated Breeding Values for Feet in Holstein-Friesian Cows in Hungary

Publication Name: Animals

Publication Date: 2026-05-01

Volume: 16

Issue: 9

Page Range: Unknown

Description:

The aim of this study was to identify SNPs in the cattle genome associated with estimated breeding values of feet (EBVfeet) in Holstein-Friesian (HF) cows in Hungary. Foot health is of major importance in dairy cattle industry whereas claw disorders are leading to lameness and thus result in low fertility rates and productivity. Genotyping was performed using the EuroG_MDv4 microarray platform. The final database comprised 2963 animals and 59,151 SNPs. EBVfeet values have been divided into high and low groups. All calculations regarding the genetic differentiation (genome-wide and locus-specific) between high- and low-value groups for EBVfeet, linear regression, and haplotype association tests have been performed with the SNP and Variation Suite software. Thirty-nine SNPs associated with EBVfeet were determined on BTAs 3, 7, 8, 15, 21, and X. The maximum values of the identified SNPs were 0.22 for Fst_marker, 23.1 for the −log10(p) of the linear regression, and 26.3 for the −log10(p) of the haplotype association tests on BTA 3. The closest genes to SNPs associated with estimated breeding values for feet (EBVfeet) are mainly associated with tissue structure, immune response, metabolism, growth, development, transport and signaling. Our results could add additional information to the genetic programs focusing on the improvement of foot health in HF cattle.

Reliability Assessment of Reinforced Concrete Beams under Elevated Temperatures: A Probabilistic Approach Using Finite Element and Physical Models

Publication Name: Sustainability Switzerland

Publication Date: 2023-04-01

Volume: 15

Issue: 7

Page Range: Unknown

Description:

A novel computational model is proposed in this paper considering reliability analysis in the modelling of reinforced concrete beams at elevated temperatures, by assuming that concrete and steel materials have random mechanical properties in which those properties are treated as random variables following a normal distribution. Accordingly, the reliability index is successfully used as a constraint to restrain the modelling process. A concrete damage plasticity constitutive model is utilized in this paper for the numerical models, and it was validated according to those data which were gained from laboratory tests. Detailed comparisons between the models according to different temperatures in the case of deterministic designs are proposed to show the effect of increasing the temperature on the models. Other comparisons are proposed in the case of probabilistic designs to distinguish the difference between deterministic and reliability-based designs. The procedure of introducing the reliability analysis of the nonlinear problems is proposed by a nonlinear code considering different reliability index values for each temperature case. The results of the proposed work have efficiently shown how considering uncertainties and their related parameters plays a critical role in the modelling of reinforced concrete beams at elevated temperatures, especially in the case of high temperatures.

Moisture behavior of thermal insulation coating consisted of vacuum-hollow nano-ceramic microspheres

Publication Name: Periodica Polytechnica Civil Engineering

Publication Date: 2018-01-01

Volume: 62

Issue: 4

Page Range: 980-985

Description:

Nanotechnology-based thermal insulation materials have appeared in building industry in the last two decades. Among them thermal insulating coatings consisted of vacuum-hollow nano-ceramic microspheres are the subjects of most professional discussion. Most studies about these coatings focus only on examination of thermodynamic properties, because there is still no consensus in academic circles about thermodynamic processes inside nano-ceramic coatings. These professional discussions distract attention from other unknown but also important material properties, like behavior by contact with moisture. This paper summarizes the results of moisture behavior tests with nano-ceramic thermal insulation coatings which were conducted to determine the time trend of water absorption, as well as volume, mass and thermal insulation quality changes caused by increasing moisture content. Analyzing the results mathematical connections were found to describe the relation between water content, dimensional and thermal conductivity changes.

Success criteria of a knowledge based organizational operation -or the necessity of the leadership style change

Publication Name: Problems and Perspectives in Management

Publication Date: 2007-01-01

Volume: 5

Issue: 2

Page Range: 51-65

Description:

In corporate practice the condition of success is that leaders must be aware of the value of human capital. The target of our theoretical research was to identify expectations that we can create against managers, who want to realize the development and successful operation of Knowledge Management System (KMS). We composed some questions that we answered in the study. The phases of our research: We looked over and summarized expectations generally valid in leading work and expectations, which are waiting for the realization as the elements of KMS, We selected expectations and identified the common areas in consideration of principal expectations that managers have to accomplish, We summarized the relations among principal features succeed in the following fields: satisfaction - emotional intelligence (EQ) - elements of Knowledge Management (KM), EQ - managing competence - elements of KM. We drafted the direction of change and things that managers have to do to make KMS work successful. The result of our theoretically research will be expanded to practical field, the managerial practice will be measured, tested, compared against the drafted expectations and with the extent of their fulfilment. We will give an account of the practical results in a following study. © Andrea Bencsik, Krisztina Bognár, 2007.

The Changing Business Ethics and Etiquette, in Slovakia and Hungary, due to Globalization

Publication Name: Acta Polytechnica Hungarica

Publication Date: 2024-01-01

Volume: 21

Issue: 6

Page Range: 89-106

Description:

There are significant differences between the culture, ideology, and values of different nations, so it is not surprising that there are differences in business ethics and etiquette. Therefore, it is essential when establishing and maintaining business relations that the parties get to know each other's ethnic customs or general international etiquette to approach each other with greater understanding and develop more successful business negotiations and business relationships. This paper aims to illustrate the similarities and differences in etiquette behavior, through the examples of two neighboring countries (Slovakia and Hungary). Based on the results of our primary, questionnaire-based, cross-national research, we conclude that companies in both Hungary and Slovakia consider that the manifestations of business ethics in the countries have improved over the last ten years due to globalization.

The application of fuzzy logic for the solving of conflicts in the dispositional tasks of a railway traffic control center

Publication Name: IEEE AFRICON Conference

Publication Date: 2009-12-01

Volume: Unknown

Issue: Unknown

Page Range: Unknown

Description:

The paper considers a railway timetable related problem in a simplified form, generated by the delay of one or several incoming trains at a given station. Usually there are connecting trains in the timetable, especially in up to date periodic timetables and thus incoming delays might indicate the necessity of introducing a delay with connecting outgoing trains. A hierarchical fuzzy rule base is applied in order to determine the optimal outgoing delay, taking also usual restrictions into consideration. Three examples are shown. © 2009 IEEE.

Convolutional Neural Network-Based Tire Pressure Monitoring System

Publication Name: IEEE Access

Publication Date: 2023-01-01

Volume: 11

Issue: Unknown

Page Range: 70317-70332

Description:

Tire pressure has a significant influence on the driving safety of road vehicles; therefore, it is mandatory in many countries to equip all new road vehicles with a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). There are two types of TPMSs in use: the direct TPMS (dTPMS) and the indirect TPMS (iTPMS), both of which have made significant improvement in the last decade. The most accurate iTPMS methods used in commercial vehicles apply the Fourier transform on wheel speed sensor (WSS) signals and extract the pressure-dependent eigenfrequency by utilizing center of gravity (CoG) or peak search (PS) methods, the research focus is shifting towards model-based and artificial intelligence-based methods. In this paper we propose a novel advanced iTPMS method based on modern signal processing and a convolutional neural network (CNN) for eigenfrequency detection. The proposed iTPMS method uses the hybrid wavelet-Fourier transform in combination with a CNN trained for pattern recognition-based eigenfrequency detection, and according to experimental results, it outperforms the commercially most frequently used Fourier transform and CoG method combination both in terms of computational requirement and accuracy.
