It is a common belief that democratic development involves the extension of rights. Often, a desired extension of rights is one of the main social drivers of democratic transformation. In this study, within the framework of a legal history investigation, I am looking for the answer to the question of whether all extensions of rights are necessarily democratic, and how to distinguish between different extensions of rights and to judge the social usefulness of each extension of rights more accurately? I distinguish two sub-cases of the extension of rights, the subjective and objective versions with different normative consequences. I conclude that it is worth subjecting certain extensions of rights to legal, constitutional and political-social considerations. The extension of rights is not ab ovo or absolutely good, its judgment depends on the given circumstances.

A Linear Driver Model of Local Path Planning for Lane Driving

Modern lane centering assistance systems often use the mid-lane as a reference line for tracking. However, human drivers prefer to keep an offset to the mid-lane. Therefore, we have proposed in our previous work a driver model which calculates human-like offset values and enable the path planner to plan human-like paths. The driving data of 15 drivers have been analyzed. It has been revealed that drivers behave differently in left or right curves and choose to drive on either the left or the right side in straight road sections. Therefore, we extend our model to handle these traits. We have shown that the extended model outperforms the previous symmetric model.

Interpolation in homogenous fuzzy signature rule bases

Fuzzy signature sets (FSigSets) are extensions of the original fuzzy set concept, and also of the Vector Valued Fuzzy Set notion. In a FSigSet rule base the (input) universe of discourse X is mapped into a set of hierarchically grouped fuzzy sets, and each element of X has a 'membership degree' consisting of a rooted tree with membership degrees at each leaf and aggregations at the intermediate vertices. The structure of the tree is identical for each element in the case of homogenous FSigSets, and so are the aggregations, depending only on the position of the vertex. Interpolation in fuzzy rule bases allows the calculation of a conclusion in the output universe Y belonging to an observation even if there are gaps in the rule base and the observation does not intersect with any of the antecedent sets. The key question here is how to determine the degree of similarity, or inversely, the distance, of any observation from the surrounding antecedents of the rules in the base, so that the distance incorporates the information involved with the close connection of the features in the sub-groups, and the aggregations expressing the form of this connection. A solution is proposed, and a pair of numerical examples is presented.

Measurement and Analysis of Vibration Levels in Rail Transport in Central Europe

In the last decade, with a continued change in world economic conditions and global trade, transportation of goods has continued to increase. The opening of new and existing markets requires that products and packages move through various regions of the world using available logistical equipment and networks at a faster pace. It also requires that damage be kept at a minimum while providing maximum safety to individuals. This can be achieved by properly designing packages to transportation levels that occur in the supply chain. The purpose of this research is to both measure and analyse the vibration physical forces that occur during rail transport. Rail shipments are widely used across the world, and they are an integral part of the intermodal transfer of ISO containers from ships and trucks to rail. The aim of this paper is to provide vibration levels measured for rail shipments on a major railway line in Central Europe that has not been previously published. The vibration levels that were measured in this study were compared with American Society of Testing and Materials, United States Military Standards and United Kingdom Defense Standard standards and International Safe Transit Association procedures in the form of power spectral density spectrums. A composite power spectral density spectrum is provided which can be used to simulate the measured rail vibration levels in Central Europe. Results are also compared with rail travel in other international shipments for North America and Asia. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Energy absorption modelling technique for car body deformation

The main object of this paper is to introduce a model for describing how the enrgy distribution changes during deformational processes, esp. in car crashes. This an important and difficult task in accident analysis and in safety car-body design. Exact estimation or measuring of the absorbed energy by the deformation is almost impossible. The classical tool for this task is usually a differental equation based finite element method, which requires exact knowledge about the parameters and takes a lot of computational time with high complexity. In the following we introduce a simple numerical model for the changing of the energy distribution during the whole deformational process. © 2007 IEEE.

Investigation of effect of water content on railway granular supplementary layers

Purpose. To determine the relationship between water content of continuously graded granular supplementary layers for railway substructure and their inner shear resistance and load bearing capacity. Methodology. Four different ‘samples’ were produced as standard granular products from andesite. Two of them are common base courses for road construction in Hungary, the other two are common railway supplementary layers. The author performed laboratory measurements (multilevel shear box tests) that are adequate for the evaluation of inner shear resistance. The measurements of load bearing capacity and Proctor tests were executed in the laboratory of Colas Hungaria Ltd. The author performed measurements with the optimal water content values of each sample, as well as lower and higher values than them. This can show how the given granular material is sensible to the change of water content. Findings. It was proved that the granular supplementary layers, which are standardized products in road construction (as base courses), also seems to be adequate in railway construction; they are not so sensible to the variation of their water content. It does not mean that the other two granular layers are not adequate for railway substructures, but the application of road ‘products’ have to be considered as substitute products. Originality. The author tried to emphasize the adequacy of rock mining for construction of ballasted railway tracks, as well as the optimal use of mineral wealth in every country with its results. Practical value. The obtained results of the present paper can be useful in the area of rock mining, and railway infrastructure engineering. During construction procedures the optimal water content values should be taken into considerations for compaction to be able to reach maximal compactness (density), but too high water content has to be avoided, which is based on the results. They can be also considered in the design phase.

Marketing has a significant impact on logistics systems and corporate performance, so it is nowadays necessary to define a marketing logistics strategy in the lives of larger companies so that logistics decisions are not distorted by the marketing strategy. According to the current direction of development, smaller and smaller quantities of goods are constantly being moved, with ever shorter deadlines. Therefore, companies prefer to use the Just In Time (JIT) system, which results in a gradual reduction in inventory costs, but increases the burden on the environment. In this article, we analyze the interaction between marketing and logistics and the logistics environment required to implement a JIT system. For research we have used the matrix of Quality Function Deployment (QFD) technique to evaluate the needs of the customer with respect to the JIT system, thus clarifying the logistics strategy applicable to the introduction of the specific product.

Simulations of poroelastic materials in a complex acoustic system using frequency-dependent parameters in the mid-frequency range

Efficiency requirements prompt manufacturers to develop ever lighter acoustic packages in vehicles. Poroelastic materials are essential to achieve the desired interior noise level targets and thus the simulation of their effects is of utmost importance in NVH analyses. However, it is challenging to achieve good validation between finite element method (FEM) based simulation results and measurements in the mid-frequency range (400-1000 Hz). One possible reason could be the lack of using frequency-dependent Biot-paremeters describing the poroelastic materials (PEM) characteristics of trims. The present research aims to employ frequency-dependent Biot-parameters for the PEM materials to investigate the acoustic response of a scaled car-like steel structure composed of flat plates and U-section stiffeners enclosing an air cavity. Porous acoustic material is applied to the walls of the cavity. The focus of the study is to understand the effect of applying frequency-dependent Young's modulus and damping values for the PEM parameters in the 100-1000 Hz range. Simulation results obtained from ESI VPS FEM solver are compared with measurements, with particular focus on the interior sound pressure levels. The simulation methodology, including discretization techniques, structural damping and fluid damping applications are described in detail.
