Mindful eating under pressure in combat sport: a single-case study of an adolescent athlete

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine closely how mindful eating intervention influences the eating behavior of a kickboxer 10 days before the competition. Methods: A mindful intervention was conducted. A mixed method was used, in which data was collected from two semi-structured interviews and four scales [Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-26), Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (EDE-Q), Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire (DEBQ), and Mindful Eating Scale (MEQ-30)]. The first semi-structured interview and four scales were administered before the intervention process, and the last interview was conducted after the competition. 10 days before the competition, 10 sessions of “mindful raisin eating” exercise, each lasting 10 min, were performed. The scores obtained from the scales were calculated manually. The data collected from semi-structured interviews were analyzed using the descriptive analysis method. Results: According to the administered 4 scales initially, the athlete’s average scores were (X̄=16) on the Eating Attitude Test (EAT-26), (X̄=3.125) on the “shape concern” sub-dimension of the Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (EDE-Q), (X̄=4) on the Emotional Eating sub-dimension of the Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire (DEBQ), and (X̄=2.5) on both the “awareness” and “eating control” sub-dimensions of the Mindful Eating Questionnaire (MEQ-30). Qualitative data showed, positive improvements were detected in eating attitudes and behaviors, stress management, perceived performance, and body image, respectively. During the mindful eating exercises, she lost approximately 2.4 kg (~3.9% of her body weight) without experiencing stress on weigh-in day. She also reported that focusing on mindful eating helped her avoid unhealthy foods and made her feel safe and calm. Conclusion: It was stated by the athlete that there were positive improvements in eating attitudes and behaviors, level of coping with stress, perceived performance and body perception.

Lithiation-Dependent Micromechanical Response of Amorphous and Crystalline MoO3 Thin-Film Cathodes on Al Current Collectors

In this study, the mechanical response of MoO3 thin-film cathodes deposited on aluminum substrates was systematically investigated using nanoindentation techniques under an inert atmosphere. Both amorphous and crystalline phases were examined across non-, partially, and fully lithiated states to elucidate the influence of lithium intercalation on elastic and plastic behavior. A range of indenter geometries, including spherical and Berkovich tips, were employed to extract plastic, elastic, and interfacial properties. The elasticity increased with lithium content, with partially lithiated systems exhibiting the highest values. Residual indentation depths were lowest for partially lithiated samples, indicating a distinct mechanical regime compared to both non- and fully lithiated states. The amorphous phase demonstrated higher stiffness, with deformation-induced cracks confined within the layer, while the crystalline phase accommodated deformation more uniformly via grain boundary sliding. The mechanical response in the crystalline phase suggests a significant role of grain-boundary-mediated deformation mechanisms. Furthermore, no degradation in layer adhesion was observed with increasing lithium content, indicating a mechanically stable interface across all lithiation states. These findings provide new insights into the mechanical integrity of cathode–current collector systems in solid-state lithium-ion batteries and underscore the critical role of intercalation state, structural phase, and microstructural pathways in determining mechanical performance.

Investigating the Operational Efficiency for the Small Asian Retailer Stores under the Deposit Refund System: Hungary Case Study

Waste management is crucial to achieving global sustainability goals, with the Deposit Refund System (DRS) emerging under the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) framework to enhance recycling rates by incentivising consumers to return beverage containers through refundable deposits. In Hungary, large retailers are required to participate in DRS, while small retailers may join voluntarily. This research aims to identify key factors influencing the voluntary participation of small Asian retail stores, focusing on economic, operational, regulatory, and social aspects. Using semi-structured interviews with ten stores in Budapest and Győr, a thematic analysis identified both motivators and barriers to participation. Findings indicate environmental awareness among participants, but low operational capacity, with space constraints, labour demands, and unclear regulations limiting engagement. Financial concerns, particularly equipment and handling costs, were major deterrents, while the potential for increased customer traffic was seen as a benefit. The study highlights the need for targeted financial incentives, infrastructure support, and clear policy communication to increase the inclusion of small retailers in DRS frameworks.

Measuring Corporate Compliance with the SDGs Based on the GRI’s ESG Reporting Methodology

Background: This research examines the efficiency of ESG reporting in corporate contributions toward achieving the SDGs, relative to the literature gaps and sectoral differences in reporting practices. It also highlights that full ESG disclosure is invariably instrumental in ensuring corporate transparency and accountability. Methods: The study used the GRI framework to analyze SDG compliance in sustainability reports from companies in the technology, automotive, energy, and health sectors. Results: Key findings include significant variations in SDG compliance across industries: the automotive sector demonstrated the highest compliance at 85%, while the technology sector showed the lowest at 49%. The study also found a notable difference between reported and substantiated SDGs, indicating that many companies engage in ‘rainbow washing’ or ‘cherry-picking’ SDGs to fit their agendas without fully integrating them into their strategies. The research concludes that although the GRI framework provide. Conclusions: The study urges the combination of other standards, such as ESRS and SASB, together with more intense regulatory frameworks and industry-specific guidelines to increase comparability and the credibility of the reports on sustainability.

Antioxidant and polyphenol content of different milk and dairy products

The aim of the present study was to determine the antioxidant capacity and total polyphenol content of raw milk, dairy products (ricotta and cottage cheese), and by-products (sweet and acid whey) from different animal breeds (cow, goat). Overall, the total polyphenol content of raw milk ranged from 420.34 to 490.72 mg GAE/100 mL, while the total antioxidant content changed between 8.95 and 28.72 mg AAE/100 mL. These values in the case of cottage cheeses were 32.29–124.29 mg GAE/100 mL for polyphenols and 14.12–16.38 mg AAE/100 g for antioxidants. Significant differences were observed between the total polyphenol content and antioxidant properties of sweet- (10.85–197.55 mg AAE/100 g antioxidant; 32.29–124.29 mg GAE/100 g polyphenol) and acid whey (13.28–158.69 mg AAE/100 g antioxidant; 43.50–98.03 mg GAE/100 g polyphenol). In addition, slight differences in total polyphenol content (10.55–19.01 mg GAE/100 g) and antioxidant capacity (10.84–15.93 mg AAE/100 g) were observed for ricotta cheeses made from milk of different animal breeds. The results show that milk and dairy products are excellent sources of antioxidants and polyphenols.

Migration Models Based on Diffusion and Determinants Gradients: Beyond the Gravity Theory

The article proposes an alternative approach to study migration flows based on gravity models. This approach does not reject gravity theory; on the contrary, it expands it to some extent. The relevant models are suggested to be described using diffusion-convection approaches. The intensity of human flows is proposed to identify on the basis of determinant gradients, and the very structure of the domain for studying these processes can be represented as a graph with nodes in the form of continuous areas of social space. The proposed approach is suitable for different dimensions of mobility studying, i.e. permanent migration decisions, touristic flows, academic mobility, transportation etc. The developed conceptual approach and mathematical formalization allow for understanding the patterns of migration applying fundamental principles of mathematic physics for economic processes.

Classification-based deep neural network vs mixture density network models for insulin sensitivity prediction problem

Model-based glycemic control (GC) protocols are used to treat stress-induced hyperglycaemia in intensive care units (ICUs). The STAR (Stochastic-TARgeted) glycemic control protocol – used in clinical practice in several ICUs in New Zealand, Hungary, Belgium, and Malaysia – is a model-based GC protocol using a patient-specific, model-based insulin sensitivity to describe the patient's actual state. Two neural network based methods are defined in this study to predict the patient's insulin sensitivity parameter: a classification deep neural network and a Mixture Density Network based method. Treatment data from three different patient cohorts are used to train the network models. Accuracy of neural network predictions are compared with the current model- based predictions used to guide care. The prediction accuracy was found to be the same or better than the reference. The authors suggest that these methods may be a promising alternative in model-based clinical treatment for patient state prediction. Still, more research is needed to validate these findings, including in-silico simulations and clinical validation trials.

The paper deals with applicative aspects concerning the control of speed and position of a BLDC servo system with low but Variable in a given range Moment of Inertia (VMI). Detailed models of various applications, some control solutions are discussed and developed and part of them tested on the basis of the specific features of the plants with VMI. The adopted control solutions PI(D) control (as reference solution) and fuzzy control with homogenous and non-homogenous dynamics are briefly presented and some approaches regarding the methods are highlighted. Due to the applicability of the methods in the field of mechatronics applications with VMI (speed and positioning control of rapid plants), the presented aspects are of permanent actuality, and they offer directions of future research. © 2011 Scientific Assoc Infocomm.
