The issue of autonomous vehicles is one of the most pressing issues of our time that raises important questions regarding the territory of public international law. The development and spread of autonomous vehicles require predictable international regulation, which is extremely necessary in the field of international transport, where several steps have been taken in this direction. The aim of the study is to reveal and evaluate the actual overview of the state of regulation of autonomous vehicles within the field of international transport, paying special attention to the work of United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the World Forum for Harmonisation of Vehicle Regulations (World Forum). For this purpose, the study analyzes the steps taken so far, presenting the two ways of regulation within these organs: the amendments of the existing rules of international transport and the creation of new documents for autonomous vehicles. With analytical, descriptive and comparative research methods, the study examines the question of whether these regulatory efforts are sufficient and what further steps should be taken to address the issue of autonomous vehicles in a satisfactory manner. The study comes to the conclusion that both the amendments and the new documents created so far have disadvantages, due to which they should be only regarded as starting points and the work should be continued in the direction of a new, precise and binding international treaty or treaties on autonomous vehicles. Based on the results of the study, this solution could contribute to the safety, sustainability and future of autonomous vehicles and international transport.

Corporate carbon footprint analysis in practice – With a special focus on validity and reliability issues

As a yield of efforts in the international climate policy and emerging consumer awareness there is a growing interest for the quantification of corporate level carbon footprints. As a consequence, there have been numerous initiatives, guidelines and calculation methods emerged recently to be able to quantify company level direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions. Most of them are based on the philosophy and classification of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. This paper intends to provide a comparison of freely available online corporate level carbon footprint calculators with a novelty value of addressing their validity and reliability. Validity here refers to the issue whether different calculators cover the same or similar aspects or scopes of the corporate carbon footprint, while reliability addresses the question whether different calculators deliver the same or similar result if we use the same input data. Based on the example of an imaginary enterprise, we argue that validity is partly achieved, while reliability of the calculators is relatively low. This means that online corporate carbon calculators can be useful to provide a first insight for companies into their carbon footprints and they can also be useful for temporal comparisons at the level of one company (if the activity of the company is not too complex.) However, these calculators do not seem to be very appropriate for comparisons among different companies or with external benchmarks.

Exhaustive enumeration of heat exchanger networks with minimum utility consumption using graph-theoretic approach

Enhancement in energy recovery is always an essential element that requires academic spotlights to ensure its capability to contribute towards carbon neutrality. Recent works have extended to cover multi-solution heat exchanger networks (HEN) synthesis instead of generating a single best solution, which is not guaranteed to be practical. Nevertheless, owing to the technical challenges of synthesising all feasible networks, none of the existing works attempts to comprehensively elucidate how network topologies affect the network cost. To address this gap, P-HENS, a graph theoretic-based HEN synthesis tool, was utilised to generate the set of all heat exchanger networks with minimum utility consumption. Its effectiveness is demonstrated through an illustrative case study, which eventually generates more than 45,000 HENs. The impacts of structural variables on the cost, including the number of exchangers and the stream pairings, were analysed. The cost range of the networks was identified, revealing cost differences of 30 % despite minimum utility consumption or 15 % despite the minimum number of exchangers. Key stream pairs required to meet maximum energy recovery and influence cost were identified, leading to recommendations for improving solution searches. The solution set and the insight from this work are available to the research community for further analysis, offering valuable insights to enhance energy integration in the industry.

Determination of shear-wave (S-wave) velocity profiles is the first step in seismic hazard assessment of a town, because the dynamic parameters of local soil types are vital for seismic response analysis of a specific area in order to determine the local soil effect in a case of a seismic event for seismic risk analysis. S-wave velocity profiles have been determined for many areas within Győr. Extensive use of historical boring logs allowed for correlations and reasonable extrapolation of soil performance throughout the area. This has led to a pattern of soil layer distributions and delineates several different soil zones for Győr.

Corruption Perception in the Light of Green Transition Indicators

Need for the study: Corruption undermines sustainability efforts and environmental governance, creating a need to understand its interaction with green transition indicators. Methodology: The study uses data from the Bertelsmann Stiftung (BS) Sustainable Governance Indicators (SGI) 2022 report and Transparency International's Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), deploying statistical methods to examine how environmental policy and participation in international treaties affect corruption. Findings: State performance in environmental policy significantly influences corruption perception, with effects enhanced by international cooperation. Gross greenhouse gas emissions emerge as the most influential indicator, negatively affecting corruption perception by increasing its presence. Practical implications: These findings call for integrating anti-corruption measures into environmental policy frameworks, fostering international collaboration, and enhancing transparency to advance sustainable development and reduce corruption risks.

Today’s rapid developments have resulted in a change in students’ attitudes and their attitude to learning. In order to provide effective education, it is necessary for educational institutions to understand these changes in attitudes and to adapt the organisation and methodology of education accordingly. In addition, institutions need to take on new roles in an era of globalisation and rapid technological change in order to contribute to social and economic development. In this respect, teaching methods based on practicality may come to the fore; the use of inductive approaches may be an excellent response to this new challenge. The university preparatory course of the University of Győr - Zalaegerszeg Innovation Park builds on the above. The Future Engineer - ZalaZONE is a 6-week series of special, unique elements; a set of methods aimed at introducing and familiarising secondary school students with research and project-based education and practical skills, while at the same time supporting the university’s engineer career orientation. Since 2023, the course has been organised on six occasions, engaging 100 participants. A further unique and special feature of the programme is the creation of a course covering automotive topics, targeting secondary school students in the Zalaegerszeg Innovation Park environment, especially in a strong connection of R&D activities, industrial services and academic partnership. Briefly, this article brings a new look to the existing literature in the following areas: (I) alig ning inductive, practice-centred approaches (IBL/PBL) with the evolving learning attitudes of Generation Z and Alpha; (II) documenting the design of a university preparatory course embe dded in a science-park ecosystem that integrates R&D infrastructure and academic partnership; and (III) demonstrating a transition from subject-based instruction toward integrated automotive themes that stimulate complex, experience-based learning.

Infinite-temperature spin dynamics in the asymmetric Hatsugai-Kohmoto model

We focus on the infinite-temperature dynamical spin structure factor of the asymmetric Hatsugai-Kohmoto model, a relative of the asymmetric Hubbard model. It is characterized by distinct single-particle energies for the two spin species, which interact with each other through a contact interaction in momentum space. We evaluate its spin structure factor exactly and follow the evolution of its excitation spectrum for all fillings and interactions, identifying signatures of the Mott transition and fingerprints of the asymmetric hoppings. The longitudinal spin structure factor exhibits soundlike and interaction-induced gapped excitations, whose number gets doubled in the presence of hopping asymmetry. The transverse response displays the competition of interaction- and asymmetry-induced gaps and results in a quadratic excitation branch at their transition. The complete asymmetric case features a momentum-independent dynamical structure factor, characteristic of transitions involving a flat band.
