This research evaluates the role of green and renewable energy- fueled financial literacy as a competitive advantage for Mexico during the world transition in energy. Based on a comprehensive review of literature and consideration of current market conditions, this research identifies key intersections between financial literacy and renewable energy growth, including investment decisions, risk assessments, policy comprehension, and technology financing. The research shows that Mexico's renewable energy sector, boasting great natural strengths, is confronted by education and financial literacy problems, which could discourage maximum returns on investments and capital allocation. The research findings conclude that tailored financial liter-acy programs developed specifically for the investment of green energy can make Mexico more competitive, induce private investment, and drive the energy transition simultaneously creating economically sustainable gains.

In recent years an increasing number of cities and transport planning documents (such as Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan) aim to reduce car traffic and promote active modes of transport – walking and cycling. The development of active modes of transport is increasingly becoming a focus of urban planning. However, detailed information on the needs of pedestrians and aspects of the assessment of a pedestrian-friendly environment are usually not available. In most cases, the only indicator of the effectiveness of improvements is the modal split and the rate of pedestrians. An objective assessment method is needed to help identify areas that need to be developed for walking. The various planning regulations and legislation provide a framework for the design of pedestrian infrastructure, but many aspects that make public spaces attractive and pedestrian-friendly (green spaces, aesthetics, sense of safety, etc.) are not included in the regulations. This problem can be addressed by the walkability index, which can provide an objective, data-based measure of how pedestrian-friendly an area is. It can also be a tool for analysing and monitoring. It can show areas where walking conditions are inadequate and intervention is needed. Regularly carrying out the survey can also serve to analyse the impact of measures taken in the meantime. This article describes the methodology and application of the walkability index.

The Role of Leadership in Attracting Intellectual Migrants and Boosting Innovative Development of Countries

The study aims to study the role of leadership in innovative development, including opportunities arising from the attractiveness of countries for intellectual migrants. The novelty of the research is in justifying the authors’ approach to assessing leadership development at the macroeconomic level and its use for defining the peculiarities of leadership development in the EU and assessing the links with of innovative development and attraction of countries for intellectual migrants. Considering leadership as an important feature of the macroeconomic environment for countries’ development, the correlation analysis was used to test hypotheses about the positive impact of leadership on (a) the attractiveness of countries for intellectual migrants; (b) the innovative development of countries. The resulting pairwise correlation coefficients for the EU show a strong relationship between the level of leadership and a country’s ability to attract (0.776) and retain talent (0.846), attract highly educated workers (0.757) and foreign entrepreneurs (0.780). A positive impact of leadership on innovative development is confirmed by the links with the overall value of the Global Innovation Index (0.825), the Growth of innovative companies (0.768) and the Entrepreneurial employee activity rate (0.599). The obtained findings prove the importance of leadership development as an important driver of talent attraction and the generation of innovative ideas.

Sustainability Opportunities and Barriers at Universities, Development of a Sustainable University Environment

Nowadays, one of the most crucial environmental, social, and economic questions is how to build a sustainable future for the following generations. This is a vital challenge because we live in a historical age due to the over-utilization of CO2-intensive technologies. Thanks to this practice, greenhouse gas emission is increasing yearly; biodiversity is decreasing dramatically. It is essential for our environment that universities play a leading role in the actions that can eliminate these adverse effects. This paper introduces the status of the uptake of sustainability-related issues and targets in the Higher Education (HE) sector. It emphasizes the necessity of the comparable evaluation of these activities by introducing current sustainability ranking systems. Some barriers disable the transition to a sustainable working model for universities. The paper identifies these barriers and makes suggestions for eliminating them through the example of Széchenyi István University’s practice and sustainability action plan. The main obstacles to sustainability in the HE sector incorporate budget constraints, resistance to change, lack of planning and focus, lack of applicability, and continuity of actions. The suggested sixteen action points in this paper could support the immediate change in the attitude to sustainability-related topics at operational levels. These suggestions support the attitude formation at each level of the decision-making process.

Investigation of the Applicability of a Hybrid Foaming System in a Mixed Plastic Waste Matrix

In our research, we investigated the chemical foaming of mixed plastic waste granulate (VMHD) using a combination of endothermic and exothermic foaming agents. We found that increasing the exothermic foaming agent improved cell distribution but reduced flexibility and impact resistance. The highest porosity (30.04%) was achieved with 0.5% endothermic and 3.5% exothermic foaming agents. Our results indicate that the proper ratio of foaming agents is crucial for optimizing the mechanical properties of the material.

The past year has seen revolutionary breakthroughs in the development of artificial intelligence-based (AI) products that can impact almost every aspect of life. The change raises the question of the sustainability of education and how technology will transform the way we currently teach. This study aims to develop a model and its hypothetical adaptation that can be used to analyse the adoption and use of artificial intelligence in university settings. The importance of AI in education can be captured in its ability to personalise learning pathways, improve teaching methods and automate related administrative tasks. AI technologies are able to adapt to the needs of individual learners, providing personalised instruction and improving learning outcomes. AI can also help educators by automating routine tasks, allowing them to focus on individualised instruction and create a more engaging and effective learning environment. Based on the accepted results of exploratory factor analysis as the applied method of this paper, the research concludes that the model adaptation is feasible, but it is worth considering changing the variable reflecting implementation to one that is accepted by educators as the concrete institutional implementation of AI is still a very distant scenario in higher education. Future research should incorporate these findings into the design of possible structural models, as this area of AI research has the potential to bring significant social science and educational benefits.

Developing a machine learning-based rapid visual screening method for seismic assessment of existing buildings on a case study data from the 2015 Gorkha, Nepal earthquake

Each existing building is required to be assessed before an impending severe earthquake utilizing Rapid Visual Screening (RVS) methods for its seismic safety since many buildings were constructed before seismic standards, without taking into account current regulations, and because they have a limited lifetime and safety based on how they were designed and maintained. Building damage brought on by earthquakes puts lives in danger and causes significant financial losses. Therefore, the fragility of each building needs to be determined and appropriate precautions need to be taken. RVS methods are used when assessing a large building stock since further in-depth vulnerability assessment methods are computationally expensive and costly to examine even one structure in a large building stock. RVS methods could be implemented in existing buildings in order to determine the damage potential that may occur during an impending earthquake and take necessary measures for decreasing the potential hazard. However, the reliability of conventional RVS methods is limited for accurately assessing large building stock. In this study, building inspection data acquired after the 2015 Gorkha, Nepal earthquake is used to train nine different machine learning algorithms (Decision Tree Classifier, Logistic Regression, Light Gradient Boosting Machine Classifier, eXtreme Gradient Boosting Classifier, Gradient Boosting Classifier, Random Forest Classifier, Support Vector Machines, K-Neighbors Classifier, and Cat Boost Classifier), which ultimately led to the development of a reliable RVS method. The post-earthquake building screening data was used to train, validate, and ultimately test the developed model. By incorporating advanced feature engineering techniques, highly sophisticated parameters were introduced into the developed RVS method. These parameters, including the distance to the earthquake source, fundamental structural period, and spectral acceleration, were integrated to enhance the assessment capabilities. This integration enabled the assessment of existing buildings in diverse seismically vulnerable areas. This study demonstrated a strong correlation between determining building damage states using the established RVS method and those observed after the earthquake. When comparing the developed method with the limited accuracy of conventional RVS methods reported in the literature, a test accuracy of 73% was achieved, surpassing conventional RVS methods by over 40% in accurately classifying building damage states. This emphasizes the importance of detailed data collection after an earthquake for the effective development of RVS methods.

Heritability and Trends in Selected Udder Traits and Their Relation to Milk Production in Holstein-Friesian Cows

This study aimed to evaluate the heritability (h2) estimates of some important udder conformation traits, their relationship to each other and with production, and their phenotypic and genetic trends over a 10-year period in relatively high-yielding Holstein-Friesian cows. A total of 15,032 cows from six herds in Hungary were tested for milk (MY), butterfat (FY), and protein (PY) production yields over 305 days in first lactation. In addition, their udder conformation was scored for udder attachment (FU), rear udder height (RUH), central ligament (CL), udder depth (UD), front teat placement (FTP), and udder texture (UT) on a 1–9 linear udder score scale. REML and BLUP single-step animal model and linear regression model were used for data analysis and estimation. The production traits of the cows were quite reasonable, with 10,179.4 kg milk, 380.3 kg fat, and 333.1 kg protein in a standard lactation of 305 days. The scores of the udder conformation traits (5.4 to 6.1) were slightly above the mean of 5 on a linear scale of 1–9. The h2 for MY, FY, and PY were obtained from 0.30 to 0.35, while those for udder traits were from 0.22 to 0.41. Phenotypic (rp) and genetic (rg) correlations for the relationship between production and udder conformation were weak or negligible (ranged from −0.33 to +0.15). Most of the associations between different udder traits were generally weak, but moderate positive correlations were observed between FU and UD (rp = 0.42, rg = 0.50 or 0.57), and between FU and UT (rp = 0.36, rg = 0.33 or 0.35). There were increasing genetic trends in the milk production (b = 2.2 to 16.5), but the studied udder conformation traits did not change over time (b = 0.00 to 0.03). In our study, despite an increase in milk yield over the studied ten-year period, udder conformation traits did not change. Therefore, considering that udder conformation scores were slightly above average and that udder traits were included in the selection index, we believe that it may be necessary to reconsider the udder conformation scoring system and its inclusion in the selection index.
