Well-Reproducible Swine Model of Human Myocardial Infarction

SERTÉS Background: Coronary artery disease is the leading cause of death in the developed countries and myocardial infarction is the most serious manifestation of the disease. Swine are being chosen with increasing frequency as subject for interventional cardiology research. Their similarities to humans in their cardiovascular physiology, size and coronary anatomy make them better experimental subjects than most species. Moreover, regular human coronary catheter systems and techniques can be readily used to access their coronary vasculature. Objectives: In this paper, a simple swine model of human myocardial infarction is studied in detail using a percutaneously inserted balloon catheter. The main role of the present paper is to introduce and troubleshoot the technique and its potential pitfalls. Materials and Methods: Myocardial infarction was confirmed by the detection of ST segment elevation on the surface ECG, total creatine kinase release, gadolinium enhanced contrast MRI scan and by histology. Results and Discussion: We conclude that if investigators are familiar with both human and animal research, this model is practical, inexpensive and can provide reproducible and consistent infarct sizes that closely mimic the human myocardial infarction. With very careful technique inducing LAD infarction distal to the second diagonal branch and done by trained team, our mortality was lower than in the literature, only 12.5%. It was also proven that the size of myocardial infarction induced by this technique was big enough to be used for different interventional cardiology research. From our study, it is clearly visible, that only a close collaboration between veterinary medicine and human cardiology can avoid the difficulties of complex swine coronary experiments and leads to success.

In this paper, first, we extend the analytical expression of the optimal solution of the constrained OWA aggregation problem with two comonotone constraints by also including the case when the OWA weights are arbitrary non-negative numbers. Then, we indicate an iterative algorithm that precisely indicates whether a constraint in an auxiliary problem is either biding or strictly redundant. Actually, the biding constraint (or two biding constraints, as this case also may occur) are essential in expressing the solution of the initial constrained OWA aggregation problem.

The principal motivation is to precisely determine the beginning and the causes of this expansion. During the research one of the objectives is to create a measurement system which can sample the deformation occurring in the course of charge and discharge. The other main aim is to process the measured results and to detect the conditions which critically influence the lifespan of the battery.

Sternbergia lutea, a new host of Narcissus late season yellows virus

In autumn 2017, autumn daffodil plants with yellow-green stripes on the leaves were observed at a botanical garden in Budapest, Hungary. Indicator plants wereinoculated, but symptoms did not develop. RT-PCR tests of the indicator plants werealso negative for the viruses. Potyvirus specific ACP-ELISA and RT-PCR were carriedout on the symptomatic S. lutea leaf samples. RT-PCR with universal potyvirusprimers resulted in one, approx. 1700 base pair PCR product. Phylogenetic analysis ofthe nucleotide sequence of the coat protein demonstrated 98.78-99.51% identity withthree Japanese isolates of Narcissus late season yellows virus. While unidentified potyvirusinfection of autumn daffodil has been previously reported, sequence data havenot been published. Therefore, this is the first report of Sternbergia lutea as a host ofNarcissus late season yellows virus

Forward and backward fuzzy rule base interpolation using fuzzy geometry

Fuzzy rule interpolation (FRI) predicts an accountable outcome of a possible course of action in sparse fuzzy rule base system (FRBS). The geometry based linear fuzzy rule interpolation (GLFRI) is extended for multi-dimensional fuzzy rule base interpolation. Expansion/contraction (EC) of triangular, trapezoidal and complex polygonal fuzzy sets has been also proposed which enables the proposed FRI method to incorporate with fuzzy rules which include triangular, trapezoidal, hexagonal or complex fuzzy sets. The study further extends to introduce the process of backward rule base interpolation. It has been shown that the scale and move transformation-based FRI method can yield a non-convex fuzzy consequent which can be avoided by using the proposed method. The proposed method performs better without any risk of obtaining non-convex fuzzy consequent. The efficiency of proposed forward and backward FRI methods is projected with several numerical examples. A detailed comparison of EC transformation with scale and move transformation is also presented here.

Description:

In the framework of the paper an improved method for image resolution enhancement is introduced. The enhancement is performed through another representation domain, where the image function is expressed with the help of polylinear functions on higher order singular value decomposition (HOSVD) basis. The paper gives a detailed description on how to determine the polylinear functions corresponding to an image and how to process them in order to obtain a higher resolution image. Furthermore, the proposed approach and the Fourier-based approach will be compared from the point of view of their effectiveness.

The article outlines the causes of the ecological crisis in Ukraine and various factors affecting the natural environment, such as air pollution, depletion and degradation of land resources, exhaustion of forest and water resources, caused by agricultural production. Thus, in Ukraine, as of 1 January 2018, more than 1.1 million hectares of degraded, unproductive and technogenically contaminated lands counted to expand, and there were 315.6 thousand hectares of unproductive lands that needed improvement; 57% of the territory of the country was affected by wind and water erosion, about 12% were flooded lands and 20% more - polluted lands. The authors detail the consequences of the impact of agricultural activities on the environment. It is necessary to reflect environmental activities in accounting, including environmental assets (natural resource potential, production waste, non-current assets of environmental protection purposes), liabilities (environmental liabilities) and results of activities (environmental incomes, environmental expenses, financial results from environmental activities). The components of natural resource potential, which are to be reflected in the accounting system, are determined. The authors of the research provide an analytical estimation of the state, structure and changes of land resources in Ukraine and define the degree of compatibility between the modern system of agriculture and new environmental and technological requirements. The article discusses normative and legal provisions concerning land protection in Ukraine, as well as normative legal acts on ecologisation of agriculture. The tendency of the recent years shows that the mechanism of combining measures of financial incentives and legal responsibility in the field of land protection, as well as the establishment of legally determined environmental restrictions in land use by means of land management, remains insufficient in terms of optimising the use and protection of land in Ukraine. The study covers the main problem aspects of the land use in Ukraine. Analytical data describing the anti-desertification measures planned until 2030, as well as measures for the restoration of degraded lands and soils, including lands affected by desertification, droughts and floods, are presented. The need to reflect the costs of implementing measures to protect and restore the natural resource potential (including land resources) is emphasised. The authors generalise the information on three groups of accounting objects in terms of the use of agricultural land: objects affecting the qualitative condition (natural fertility) of land, objects representing land capital with a certain level of natural fertility which are at the disposal of enterprises, and objects that depend on the type of agricultural lands and their natural fertility. It is suggested to generalise the information on the objects of ecological accounting in the form of the Environmental Activity Report, which will increase the effectiveness of the managerial decisions on the environment at micro- and macro-levels.

The paper proposes the concept of infotation as an analogy to gravitation that reflects a force of attraction between patterns of information. It is demonstrated in the paper that in a way similar to how attraction exists between masses and "lumps" of energy (as described through Newtonian dynamics and the Higgs boson), and in analogy with the clear relationship between mass and energy (as described by Einstein), it can be expected with reason that a form of attraction exists between patterns of information - provided that we accept the proposition that some correspondence exists between energy and information, a point of view that has been adopted to great effect in several fields. Although the existence of infotation is not proved in the paper, it is argued that the concept has been implicitly relied upon in several fields of scientific inquiry by high-ranking scientists, including W. Pauli and C.G. Jung. The conclusion of the paper is that irrespective of the fact that the existence of infotation can only be regarded as a hypothesis, its introduction to scientific discourse could promote a new discussion and modeling style that is hopefully both holistic and effective.

Eugenic bacterial memetic algorithm for fuzzy road transport traveling salesman problem

The aim of the Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP) is to find the cheapest way of visiting all elements in a given set of cities (nodes) exactly once and returning to the starting point. In solutions presented in the literature costs of travel between nodes are based on Euclidean distances, the problem is symmetric and the costs are constant and crisp values. Practical application in road transportation and supply chains are often uncertain or fuzzy. The risk attitude depends on the features of the given operation. The model presented in this paper handles the fuzzy, time dependent nature of the TSP and also gives a solution for the asymmetric loss aversion by embedding the risk attitude into the fitness function of the eugenic bacterial memetic algorithm. Computational results are presented for different cases. The classical TSP is investigated along with a modified instance where some costs between the cities are described with fuzzy numbers. Two different techniques are proposed to evaluate the uncertainties in the fuzzy cost values. The time dependent version of the fuzzy TSP is also investigated and simulation experiences are presented. © 2011.
