The authors have investigated the sustainability of Integrated Waste Management Systems (IWMS). These systems were modeled by Fuzzy Cognitive Maps (FCM), which are known as adequate fuzzy-neural network type models for multi-component systems with a stable state. The FCM model was designed of thirty-three factors to describe the real world processes of IWMS in as much detailed and as much accurately as possible. Although, this detailed model meets the requirements of accuracy, the presentation and explanation of such a complex model is difficult due to its size.While there is a general consensus in the literature about a very much simplified model of IWMSs, detailed investigation lead to the assumption that a much more complex model with considerably more factors (components) would more adequately simulate the rather complex real life behavior of the IWMS.As the starting point we used the thirty-three component model based on the consensus of a workshop of experts coming from all areas of the IWMS (operation, regulation, management, etc.) and the set goal was to find the most accurate real model that could be obtained by analyzing and properly reducing this – very likely too much detailed, or atomized – model.In this paper, a new state reduction approach with three different metrics is presented. The practical aspects of the results gained by these methods are evaluated.

The Department of Logistics and Forwarding at Széchenyi István University in Gyor, Hungary started a project in an automotive industry supplier company. The purpose of the project is to grow the efficiency of the production process. In order to achieve the target we should reorganized the IT system. During the research we had to take the special production circumstances and the already exist ad hock hformation system into consideration. The article adumbrates the course of the project shortly, the faults of the system, the own-developed new information system and represents how the human failures could be eliminated though RFId application. © 2007 IEEE.

This research begins with a simple but essential question: In predictive vehicle maintenance, where should raw data from a car be stored? Some argue that it makes sense to keep it within the vehicle, managed directly by its control units. Others prefer sending it to a backend system for evaluation by larger models. We found that this decision cannot be made based solely on technical reasoning. The legal conditions surrounding personal data, cybersecurity, product responsibility, and AI-based systems in the European Union carry equal weight in shaping feasibility. These regulations not only impose constraints but also actively influence the design and application of such technologies in real-world scenarios. The findings suggest that legal barriers frequently limit implementation more than current technical capabilities. Addressing these constraints early in the design process is crucial, as they define not only what types of data processing are permitted but also how predictive maintenance services can be delivered to users. To support responsible development, this study proposes a legal-technical framework tailored to the European regulatory landscape. It aligns predictive maintenance systems with key European Union regulations, including the GDPR, Cybersecurity Act, Cyber Resilience Act, and AI Act.

Advancing Lubrication Modeling: A Preliminary Study of Finite Element Solutions for Cavitation-Aware Reynolds Equation †

In the modern automotive industry, one of the most challenging tasks is minimizing energy losses caused by friction. Despite its significance, only a limited number of numerical simulation tools are available for effectively addressing lubrication-related problems. The accurate modeling of lubrication phenomena requires solving a specialized form of the Navier–Stokes equations, which accounts for cavitation effects within a thin fluid film. To address this, a finite element software is currently under development to solve the Reynolds equation while incorporating cavitation effect. This advanced tool enables the precise simulation of how the microgeometry of contacting surfaces influences the lubrication characteristics of the fluid film. By optimizing these surface features, the research aims not only to reduce energy dissipation but also to ensure the long-term durability of mechanical components. The findings obtained thus far demonstrate promising improvements in lubrication efficiency and structural longevity. These results, along with the methodological advancements, will be presented in detail at the upcoming conference.

In this paper we analyze the efficiency of the state-of-the-art methods for solving two TSP variants, the Traveling Salesman Problem with Time Windows and one-commodity Pickup-and-Delivery Traveling Salesman Problem. Retrofit heat exchanger network (HEN) optimization is a fundamentally unique problem which requires the consideration of existing structures, compared to grassroots design problems. The optimization of retrofit HENs is particularly difficult due to the integration of both existing and newly acquired equipment. The re-routing of existing equipment can lead to various network topologies, increasing the complexity of considerations. In this work, we exploit the P-graph framework to solve retrofit HEN problems, guaranteeing to find the topology of optimal solutions within the constrained space of the HEN retrofit problem. The P-graph framework has additional advantages that allows topologically-efficient search space, simplifies additional unit placement, considers unit positional swapping (re-sequencing and re-piping within search constraints), considers stream splitting, and n-best solution visualization. The pinch minimum utility constraint also provides a bound for the maximum number of modifications in the HEN, significantly reducing search space. The proposed P-graph-based approach is demonstrated using a real refinery case study to show its capability in obtaining the topology of the optimal HEN, highlighting the economic and energy benefits. Further extensions to other retrofit process integration problems (e.g. retrofit water network, hydrogen network etc.) will be enabled via the proposed P-graph approach.

Multibody Simulation of Helical Gear Noise and Vibration Behavior Using MSC ADAMS †

The premium electric-vehicle market demands exceptionally quiet transmissions because the absence of engine masking makes gearbox noise more perceptible. Virtual NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) evaluation requires coupling elastic deformation, gear–tooth contact, and vibration transmission through bearings and housing within a single environment. This study develops an integrated workflow in MSC ADAMS for predicting the NVH behavior of a 23/81-tooth helical gear pair. Finite element-based flank stiffness is imported, and a nonlinear contact model is applied to flexible teeth. Baseline simulation at 50 Nm and 200 rpm yields a static transmission error (TE) of 7.5 µm and a dynamic peak-to-peak TE of 0.7 µm, with the fundamental mesh tone at 77 Hz. Increasing tip relief by +0.10 mm lowers RMS TE by 31% and the first mesh order by 3.1 dB while raising the flank pressure from 1.65 GPa to 1.88 GPa. The workflow efficiently supports early-stage gear-noise optimization prior to the development of physical prototypes.
