Tribological Investigation of Applicability of Nano-Sized Cupricoxide (CuO) Ceramic Material in Automotive Vehicles

Due to the continuously increasing requirements of the internal combustion engines, the lubricants and their additives have to be further developed. One possible solution is the application of ceramic nanoparticles as friction modifier and wear decreaser additives. This paper presents the tribological investigation of cupricoxide (CuO) nanoparticle mixed in neat Group 3 base oil. To analyse its properties, simplified ball-on-disc friction experiments were carried out in the tribological laboratory in the Széchenyi István University in Győr, Hungary. The arisen wear scars were analysed with different, highresolution microscopes to understand the working mechanism of the nanoparticles. The results have indicated an optimum concentration of nanoparticles at 0.5wt% where both the average friction coefficient and the wear scar diameter were reduced by 15%. The microscopical investigation revealed the reduction of copper material from the CuO material, and it has mended to the rubbing surface forming a protective film on the metal surface.

Extension of the Multi-TP Model Transformation to Functions with Different Numbers of Variables

The tensor product (TP) model transformation defines and numerically reconstructs the Higher-Order Singular Value Decomposition (HOSVD) of functions. It plays the same role with respect to functions as HOSVD does for tensors (and SVD for matrices). The need for certain advantageous features, such as rank/complexity reduction, trade-offs between complexity and accuracy, and a manipulation power representative of the TP form, has motivated novel concepts in TS fuzzy model based modelling and control. The latest extensions of the TP model transformation, called the multi- and generalised TP model transformations, are applicable to a set functions where the dimensionality of the outputs of the functions may differ, but there is a strict limitation on the dimensionality of their inputs, which must be the same. The paper proposes an extended version that is applicable to a set of functions where both the input and output dimensionalities of the functions may differ. This makes it possible to transform complete multicomponent systems to TS fuzzy models along with the above-mentioned advantages.

Residents’ attitudes and behaviours on private green spaces in the suburban areas of Central European countries

Green spaces in urban and suburban areas play a significant role in helping settlements adapt to climate change. The design, quantity, quality, and location of green spaces influence their ability to provide benefits to people and enhance the quality of life. Private green spaces, if adequately managed, can enhance the environmental quality. This study, based on a questionnaire survey and the Motivation/Attitude-Driven Behaviour (MADB) model, investigated how the attitudes and behaviours of residents shape private green spaces in 12 settlements of the 4 city regions (Cluj region, Nitra region, Kecskemét region, and Győr region) in 3 Central European countries (Hungary, Slovakia, and Romania). The results showed that beautiful natural environment, abundance of green spaces, beautiful settlement and streetscape, and village atmosphere were mentioned most often, along with good quality of life, with a mention rate of over 70.00% in the four city regions. Convenience also played a significant role in the management of green spaces, showing that convenience factors (less work, less waste, and cheaper management) more important for those who live in settlements nearer to the cities. The importance of biodiversity and ecology was positively correlated with socio-economic status such as education and financial situation. However, the importance of the utility of green spaces was less prevalent among original villagers and settlers. Moreover, we found that the percentage of green spaces of settlers is slightly higher than that of original villagers. The results of factor analysis revealed that socio-economic status can influence respondents’ attitudes towards green spaces. It suggests to increase ecological awareness of residents, especially for new settlers, and promote good management techniques for green spaces. This study can improve the awareness of urban planners about the importance of green spaces in suburban areas.

In connection with investigations related to mathability and to applications of computer-assisted methods for studying a validation of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) tests is presented. This paper presents a validation of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) tests performed in Gigahertz Transverse Electromagnetic (GTEM) cells as an alternative method to tests performed at Open Area Test Sites (OATS) or expensive anechoic chambers. The equipment selected for the inspection is widely used in electronic devices of crucial reliability expectations like medical measurements or electronic components for transport and industrial process control. This special engineering topic gives a good example of the wide applicability of mathability.

Efficient Design and Sustainability Assessment of Wastewater Treatment Networks using the P-graph Approach: A Tannery Waste Case Study

In the tannery industry approximately, 30 - 35 m3 of wastewater (WW) is generated per ton of rawhide processed. The WW comprises high concentrations of salts, ammonia, dye, solvents, and chromium. Of particular interest is chromium, which has been proven to cause dermatological, developmental, and reproductive issues on exposure. Thus, there is a need for appropriate treatment of the tannery WW before it is discharged for natural remediation. However, designing a treatment process is multifaceted due to the availability of multiple technologies that can perform similar tasks and the complex composition of waste streams. This necessitates the treatment to be performed in stages namely, primary, secondary, and tertiary. In some cases, pretreatment is required to enhance the recovery in the following stages. Due to the combinatorial nature of this problem, the P-graph approach, which uses principles from graph theory, can be used to synthesize a treatment pathway by selecting appropriate technologies at each stage, while meeting required purity specifications. Furthermore, the P-graph approach can provide alternate feasible treatment structures ranked based on Economics as well as Sustainability indicators, such as the Sustainable Process Index (SPI). In this work, a tannery WW case study is investigated with multiple stages and treatment technologies. A complex maximal structure is generated comprising all possible technologies, flows, connections, bypasses, mixers, and splitters. The models for each technology involve capital and operating costs, efficiency, and SPI at each stage of the treatment process. This problem is formulated in P-graph and solved using the Accelerated Branch-and-Bound algorithm.

Emission analysis of liquefied natural gas and diesel heavy-duty trucks using on-board monitoring method

Environmental protection and the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are becoming top priorities in the mobility sector especially in heavy-duty truck (HDT) sector. In recent years, numerous regulations, targets, and initiatives have been introduced, all of which strongly promote the reduction of carbon-dioxide (CO2) emissions, the adoption of eco-friendly alternatives, and the use of renewable energy sources. The study compares CO2 emissions and fuel consumption between conventional diesel and liquefied natural gas (LNG) heavy-duty vehicles (HDVs) from the same original equipment manufacturer (OEM). The research was conducted on multiple levels, with a primary focus on control based on test track measurements. This was preceded by a simulation phase and followed by public road measurement-based validation process. In this study, we used the onboard monitoring (OBM) emission analysis method, a cost-effective and accurate process where data was recorded from the fleet management system (FMS) using controller area network (CAN) messages. The results are presented in several stages from simulation to data validation. Our research represents a unique study in the field of HDVs, as the measurements were conducted on a test track, supported by simulations and public road tests. The results of the project clearly demonstrate that gas technology can contribute to reducing GHG emissions in HDVs, and LNG provides a reliable alternative for long-distance transportation.

The most important objective of this study is to explore people's attitudes regarding the values of gastronomy in Győr-Moson-Sopron County. Data collection took place between September 1, 2023, and November 30, 2023 (N=784). The sample is not representative, the respondents were selected arbitrarily and randomly. The survey data was processed using JMP Pro17 Statistical software and Google forms were shared on social media platforms. The most important result of the primary research is that the study revealed the personal preferences and attitudes of respondents that influence the frequency of attendance at gastronomic events. To this end, we wanted to conduct a cluster analysis. Secondary research shows that the preservation and transmission of gastronomic culture is a key task in all historical periods. In this context, it becomes justified to examine our sample with a view to preserving cultural heritage and identity and to explore how the individuals in our sample relate to the gastronomic traditions of their region, which may influence their choices and the preservation of traditions that are part of their identity. The preservation of cultural heritage and contributions to it hold a significant role in gastronomic tourism. The implications of the results of the empirical research go beyond the borders of Győr-Moson-Sopron county and highlight the relationship between gastrotourism and local traditions.

Modeling of loss aversion in solving fuzzy road transport traveling salesman problem using eugenic bacterial memetic algorithm

The aim of the traveling salesman problem (TSP) is to find the cheapest way of visiting all elements in a given set of cities and returning to the starting point. In solutions presented in the literature costs of travel between nodes (cities) are based on Euclidean distances, the problem is symmetric and the costs are constant and crisp values. Practical application in road transportation and supply chains are often fuzzy. The risk attitude depends on the features of the given operation. The model presented in this paper handles the fuzzy, time dependent nature of the TSP and also gives solution for the asymmetric loss aversion by embedding the risk attitude into the fitness function of the bacterial memetic algorithm. Computational results are presented as well. © 2010 Springer-Verlag.
