Mobile Robot Environment Representation Through Fuzzy Signatures-Integrated Quadtrees

Description:

This paper presents an innovative environment representation technique for mobile robots, incorporating obstacle detection within their operational space. Leveraging the fuzzy signature method, this approach uses quadtrees for efficient data organization. A set of fuzzy rules evaluates feature points to ascertain the relevance of identified obstacles. These points and their fuzzy associations are systematically arranged using a quadtree structure. The environmental model is reconstructed by traversing this tree and applying the established fuzzy rules. This paper has achieved a high-resolution grid representation of 0.1m within a 20m×20m area. Notably, the inference operation completes in just 0.5 ms, underscoring the method’s efficiency. Additionally, the technique is optimized for low memory consumption, demonstrating effective resource management even on older PCs, such as an Intel Core Duo 2 with 16 GB RAM. This representation is designed to support advanced robotic functions, such as obstacle navigation in a distributed computing environment.

Description:

The prevention of pre-eclampsia is difficult due to the syndromic nature and multiple underlying mechanisms of this severe complication of pregnancy. The current clinical distinction between early- and late-onset disease, although clinically useful, does not reflect the true nature and complexity of the pathologic processes leading to pre-eclampsia. The current gaps in knowledge on the heterogeneous molecular pathways of this syndrome and the lack of adequate, specific diagnostic methods are major obstacles to early screening and tailored preventive strategies. The development of novel diagnostic tools for detecting the activation of the identified disease pathways would enable early, accurate screening and personalized preventive therapies. We implemented a holistic approach that includes the utilization of different proteomic profiling methods of maternal plasma samples collected from various ethnic populations and the application of systems biology analysis to plasma proteomic, maternal demographic, clinical characteristic, and placental histopathologic data. This approach enabled the identification of four molecular subclasses of pre-eclampsia in which distinct and shared disease mechanisms are activated. The current review summarizes the results and conclusions from these studies and the research and clinical implications of our findings.

"Thin" Structure of Relations in MCDM Models. Equivalence of the MABAC, TOPSIS(L1) and RS Methods to the Weighted Sum Method

This paper introduces the conceptual framework of the multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) rank model, which embodies the integration and harmonization of the aggregation method, the weighing method, the decision matrix normalization technique, and the selection of distance metrics. This definition serves to broaden the spectrum of acceptable MCDM methodologies for problem-solving and specifiing the associated tools. A Multi-Method Model (3M) approach is employed for multi-criteria selection to enhance the reliability of the results. The methodology is outlined for adjusting the rankings of alternatives to account for the distinguishability of ratings in a particular MCDM model using the Relative Performance Indicator (RPI) of alternatives. Through RPI, four methods are established for aggregating individual characteristics of alternatives that yield identical results: Weighted Sum Model (WSM), Multi-Attributive Border Approximation area Comparison (MABAC), Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solutions (TOPSIS (L1)), and Ratio System approach (RS), eliminating the need to duplicate these methods in the 3M approach. A comprehensive comparison of numerous multi-criteria methods is conducted based on two lists: ranking and rating. Additionally, a method for step-by-step linear transformation of alternative ratings obtained from various MCDM models is defined, facilitating comparison and aggregation of ratings.

Fuzzy signatures have demonstrated effectiveness in various knowledge-representation domains, including medical decision-making systems and complex decision-making tasks across numerous fields. Even though the advancements in the field of fuzzy signatures have been substantial, the complete potential for developing a comprehensive graph-theoretical description format for this domain still needs to be fully realized. This paper introduces a novel hypergraph-based method for modeling fuzzy signatures, which offers a structured approach to their representation but also showcases the potential synergy between fuzzy signatures and hypergraphs. The proposed method is designed to improve fuzzy information representation and streamline the aggregation-based decision-making process. Future research is anticipated to extend the applicability of this method to control systems and robotics. Furthermore, the hypergraph-based model opens new avenues for the algebraic analysis of fuzzy signatures through tensor-based representations.

Nonlinear moving horizon predictive control of ground vehicles

The paper deals with the approximately time-optimal control of automatically driven cars modeled with gear shift as discrete control input beside the continuous ones in a path between two path boundaries. The path boundaries are defined by their corner points that may be the result of image processing in real time or prescribed in advance. The path is divided into sections for which separate optimum control problems are solved in a nonlinear moving horizon predictive control (NMHPC) fashion increasing the semi-online character of the approach. In each section the problem can be formulated as a mixed-integer optimal control problem (MIOCP). The resulting MIOCP is solved by reformulating it to static mixed-integer nonlinear program (MINLP) using time discretization and direct multiple shooting method. Non-commercial open software packages are applied that substantially use the gradients of the objective function and the Jacobians of the constraints exploiting sparsity. The elaborated method can be applied both for combustion engine and electric driven cars. It can also form the basis to generate an offline database of a central general collision avoidance system (CAS) for varying path parameters on a grid which can further support real time applications.

The paper presents a test calculation principle which serves for producing tests of switch-level logic faults in CMOS digital circuits. The considered fault model includes stuck-at-0/1 logic faults on the connecting lines, as well as switch faults in the transistors. Both single and multiple faults are included. The transistor faults manifest themselves in stuck open (open circuit) and stuck short (short circuit) behavior. In this paper only combinational logic circuits are taken into consideration. The calculation principle is comparatively simple. It is based only on successive line-value justification, and it yields an opportunity to be realized by an efficient computer program. ©2004 IEEE.

A demographic study of natural heritage visitation intentions in tourism in Győr-Moson-Sopron County, in Hungary

At the beginning of the 21st century, sustainability is today’s most important issue, but it is achieved only in those areas where there is environmental awareness. Natural heritage is a part of heritage tourism in terms of the grouping of attraction types. The conceptualization of heritage and cultural heritage itself is not uniform in the national and domestic literature, with some considering heritage tourism to be synonymous with cultural tourism and others interpreting it as a connotation. This study aims to present the natural heritage of Győr-Moson-Sopron County (Hungary). Quantitative research was used to analyze the topic (N = 666), the sample is not representative and the selection of respondents was random. Data were collected between 1 September 2023 and 31 October 2023 using electronic questionnaires shared on Google Drive. Data were processed using SPSS 25.0 and MS Office Excel in addition to the descriptive statistical data (modus, median, standard deviation), correlation, and cross-tabulation analyses. In the framework of quantitative research, respondents’ travel willingness to visit tourist attractions, their specific expenditures, and their intention to participate in various events were conducted. The following questions are addressed in the study, whether all three national parks (Fertő-Hanság, Pannontáj-Sokoróand Szigetköz) are equally popular among tourists, whether the educational level of tourists influences the visitation of Lake Fertő, whether the respondents’ place of residence and the Danube floodplain influence the visitation of the lake and whether the age of the respondents influences the visitation of the 700-year-old oak in Hédervár. The significant finding of the study is that the mean of non-young people’s visitation is higher than that of young people in all three national parks.

The concept and development of a new detection method for light alkali ions stemming from diagnostic beams installed on medium size tokamak is described. The method allows us the simultaneous measurement of plasma density fluctuations and fast variations in poloidal magnetic field, therefore one can infer the fast changes in edge plasma current. The concept has been worked out and the whole design process has been done at Wigner RCP. The test detector with appropriate mechanics and electronics is already installed on COMPASS tokamak. General ion trajectory calculation code (ABPIons) has also been developed. Detailed calculations show the possibility of reconstruction of edge plasma current density profile changes with high temporal resolution, and the possibility of density profile reconstruction with better spatial resolution compared to standard Li-BES measurement, this is important for pedestal studies. © 2013 Elsevier B.V.

Opportunities of VR for Teaching History

The present study examines the opportunities of VR in the context of humanities and arts and – within their frameworks – in that, of history. Its novelty clearly lies in the fact that in this fields’ cyberspace is not used either by public or by higher education. The inclusion of info-communication tools for history teaching, does not really follow the current trajectory of development. Educators usually work according to methods that have become the most common and familiar. This research clearly revealed that students, who regularly use the VR space, in a History course of teacher training, consider it experiential, user-friendly, simple, problem-oriented and thus, easier to visualize historical facts. The regular and widespread use of VR software could greatly and easily help to progress the historical curriculum space.
