Prioritising water-related regional development project ideas based on stakeholder involvement activities: A case study from Szigetköz, Hungary

Szigetköz—a large island of the Danube in Hungary—is attracting a new wave of interest in water-related regional development projects from the public and private sectors alike. The revived interest in the Szigetköz floodplain area, which has historically endured the adverse effects of large-scale water management initiatives, draws attention to the necessity for careful consideration and the active involvement of local stakeholders in the decision-making process. In our research, we conducted various stakeholder engagement activities, including interviews, questionnaires, and workshops. These activities helped define the problems and objectives of each stakeholder group. Through collaborative consultations, we gathered over 100 proposed water related development project ideas. Additionally, to address key issues in project development and selection, we evaluated the integrative potential of each proposed project, considering the number of distinct water management issues it addressed. We also assigned an attitude score to each project, derived from the diverse objectives of various stakeholder groups, and analysed these quantities using a multiple-criteria analysis. This paper details a novel approach to assess and rank the proposed water-related regional development project ideas based on the calculated integrative potential and attitude scores. The goal was to prioritise and further develop these proposed projects to benefit Szigetköz and its surrounding areas. Main results of the study have shown the average project scored between 0.33–0.50 in integrative potential out of a maximum of 1.00 For positive attitude score the average was between 0.28–0.43, out of a maximum of 1.00 while for the negative attitude score the average project scored between -0.14–0.00 out of a minimum of -1.00. The ranking of projects that was based on these scores, highlighted three types of proposed projects that need to be further developed in different ways. The top-ranked positive attitude integrative projects need cost-benefit calculations involving all ecosystem services to justify their economic sustainability. Top-ranked opposing attitude integrative projects need conflict resolution to be socially sustainable. Finally, project ideas that scored low on integrative potential need to be developed to make use of blue-green infrastructure, and circular economical advancements to foster their environmental sustainability.

Architectural web portal and interactive CAD learning in Hungary

It is the aim of this case to show the teaching web portal of the Faculty of Architecture at "Széchenyi István" University (www.arc.sze.hu/indexen.html) and its many uses. Nowadays, the Internet helps us to look into Hungarian and foreign study aids, and architectural websites. The Internet has created potential new and effective ways of cooperation between lecturers and students of the university and other institutions of higher education. The teaching web portal mentioned above realizes diversity and complexity of architecture, with efficient grouping of information, while being attentive to high professional standards. Computer Aided Architectural Modeling (www.arc.sze.hu/cad) is one of the new types of online lecture notes, where many narrated screen captured videos show the proper usage of cad software instead of texts and figures. This interactive type of learning assists students to become more independent learners. This type of teaching modality provides the opportunity for students who need more time to acquire subject matter through viewing video examples. The success of our departments' common web initiations can be measured through Internet statistics and feedback of the students and external professionals. © 2010, IGI Global.

Exploratory analysis of zero waste theory to examine consumer perceptions of sustainability: A covariance-based structural equation modeling (CB-SEM)

Introduction: The analysis of corporate and consumer sustainability practices is currently the focus of several scientific disciplines due to their environmental impact and diversity. Objective: This research aims to create a hierarchy of consumer perceptions of zero waste thinking that can guide government decisions regarding university communities' sustainability efforts. To achieve the objectives of this study, Hungarian university citizens (students, faculty, staff) as potential zero waste consumers in Győr were involved in a purposive sampling approach. Methods: This study adopted the Covariance-Based Structural Equation Modeling (CB-SEM) methodology to prove the hypotheses related to the 7Rs regarding Zero Waste perceptions of university citizens. The rethink element of the hierarchy was defined as the default condition for the 7 R application and therefore remained at the top of the hierarchy as an endogenous variable. Results: The study concluded that it is possible to adapt a business 7 R framework for consumer use, but only 5Rs can be applied. The analysis was conducted at a 90% confidence level, under which condition the independent variables together explain 87% of the variance of the rethink factor. The results show that the four constructs, namely rot (β =0.12, ρ<0.1), reduce (β =0.21, ρ<0.1), recycle (β =0.26, ρ<0.05), and reuse (β =0.43, ρ<0.05) significantly affect rethinking. Based on these regression weights, a hierarchy of importance can be established. In line with the original 7 R business concept, rethink is at the top of the hierarchy, followed by the other elements. Conclusions: The results suggest that the zero waste attitudes of university citizens are currently limited to the 5Rs, which should require government leadership to strengthen these factors or a more consistent presence and support for the 2Rs that are missing from the established model. Governments can use the results of this research in their sustainability-related decisions.

The study seeks to answer the question of what strategic directions and opportunities we have for business in the midst of the info-communication changes of our time. In this research, we compare the results of non-representative primary research (cluster analysis and discriminant analysis) with the factors and latest methods of e-commerce or even mobile commerce and traditional commerce and their main differences. Based on the four clusters examined, we develop a new strategic model for practice with suggestions which can be used by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and which they can incorporate directly into their business models. Starting point of our hypothesis was that in order to develop an effective and delivered communication, a market needs to be targeted and at least four different clusters should be formulated.

Harnessing the Green Spirit: The Impact of Spiritual Leadership on Employee Creativity in Small and Medium-Scale Enterprises

Background: Creativity, innovation, and learning behaviour are essential in accomplishing a competitive edge and the prerequisite of leadership in enhancing employee creativity and organisational growth. However, it is still unclear how team creativity and leadership are related. Objective: The research evaluates the effects spiritual leadership has on employee creativity, together with green human resource management (GHRM) practices within small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The proposed framework explains the pathways through which spiritual leadership creates green workplaces that both engage employees and drive sustainable organisational expansion. Methodology: The study employed qualitative approach to attain its aim. The researchers collected data from 21 SME employees while the collected data were analysed using thematic analysis done with N-Vivo 14. Results: The outcomes of this research indicate that spiritual leadership encourages employee creativity and green HRM practices. This eventually enhances organisational performance and staff creativity, providing meaningful information to companies looking to elevate sustainability and overall performance. Conclusion: Leadership is an important requirement for effective management of small and medium scale enterprises. Unique Contribution: The outcomes present a new perspective on the relationship between spiritual leadership and employee results, escalating the value of creative strategies that help team members' personal and professional development. Key Recommendation: All organizational strategies and procedures must include environmental sustainability to create a unified HRM strategy. Leaders are important in advancing this integration by supporting eco-friendly projects and improving an environment that stimulates employee involvement and innovation.

Identification of the nonlinear steering dynamics of an autonomous vehicle

Automated driving applications require accurate vehicle specific models to precisely predict and control the motion dynamics. However, modern vehicles have a wide array of digital and mechatronic components that are difficult to model, manufactures do not disclose all details required for modelling and even existing models of subcomponents require coefficient estimation to match the specific characteristics of each vehicle and their change over time. Hence, it is attractive to use data-driven modelling to capture the relevant vehicle dynamics and synthesise model-based control solutions. In this paper, we address identification of the steering system of an autonomous car based on measured data. We show that the underlying dynamics are highly nonlinear and challenging to be captured, necessitating the use of data-driven methods that fuse the approximation capabilities of learning and the efficiency of dynamic system identification. We demonstrate that such a neural network based subspace-encoder method can successfully capture the underlying dynamics while other methods fall short to provide reliable results.

A survey based on a standard questionnaire on employee satisfaction was carried out in Hungary. The questionnaire was developed by international university research consortium. The qualitative data were collected from 1159 respondents. The subjective and therefore inexact answers represented in the Likert scale were mapped into fuzzy membership degrees. The article presents a method that consists of the combination of factor analysis and the least square method, applied for developing the fuzzy signature characterizing the employees' behavioural engagement.

We greet a scholar, politician and researcher of major format on the occasion of his eightieth birthday. During his life full of work Kálmán Kulcsár has introduced new disciplines in Hungary, as a science politician he made major efforts for the establishment and consolidation of the institutions of sociology and political science. As a professor he taught the theory of the state and of law, and the sociology of law to generations, as a politician and Minister of Justice he did a great deal for the legal preparation of the change of the political system. As a diplomat he represented our country in Ottawa to the satisfaction of all. Above all he is an extremely prolific researcher who publishes his interesting writings to this day. His interest extends over theoretical questions to the development of individual societies, from Europe to Asia, his profundity is legendary; his clear-cut style makes his writings enjoyable to the reader. Physical, mechanical, and thermal properties of Dalbergia sissoo wood waste-filled poly(lactic acid) composites

The present work intended to investigate the effect of Dalbergia sissoo wood waste on physical, mechanical, and thermal properties of poly(lactic acid) (PLA)-based composites. The composite specimens, containing wood waste (2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, and 10% by weight) mixed with PLA granules, were prepared by melt compounding. It was found that increased wood waste content resulted in higher modulus, porosity, and water absorption with decreased density, tensile strength, impact strength, and stress at break. Nevertheless, the flexural strength values of the composites were similar to unfilled PLA and they remained almost constant irrespective of the wood waste content. Differential scanning calorimetry analysis revealed that the presence of wood waste content increased the glass transition and cold crystallization temperature of the PLA composites. Moreover, the fractured surfaces of the composites were examined with a scanning electron microscope to study the possible failure mechanisms. The conducted investigations demonstrated that low-cost wood waste-based composites can be used as an environmentally and economically attractive substitute for lightweight applications.
