European funds in the nonprofit sector of West-Transdanubia and Gyor

Description:

The paper seeks answers to the question: how successful were the nonprofit organisations in the West-Transdanubian region and in Gyor receiving EU funds between 2004 and October 2012 (the authors also show the national data to make better analysis). The study shows how many applications were successful and how many supports required and got the organisations during the first (2004-2006) and second (2007-2013) planning periods. The paper also presents the most popular Operational Programs regarding the number of the projects and the amount of the EU support. The authors introduce detailed the successful organisations in Gyor. The aim of the study is to show how were the nonprofit organisations successful getting EU funds in West-Transdanubia and in Gyor, and what types of projects were supported in these areas.

Advanced neutral alkali beam diagnostics for applications in fusion research (invited)

Diagnosing the density profile at the edge of high temperature fusion plasmas by an accelerated lithium beam is a known technique since decades. By knowledge of the relevant atomic physics rate coefficients, the plasma electron density profile can be calculated from the relatively calibrated light profile along the beam. Several additional possibilities have already been demonstrated: Charge Exchange Resonance Spectroscopy (CXRS) for ion temperature/flow and Zeeman polarimetry for edge plasma current; therefore the Li-beam diagnostic offers a wealth of information at the plasma edge. The weaknesses of the method are the relatively faint light signal, background light, and technical difficulties of the beam injector which usually seriously limit the applicability. In this talk, we present systematic developments in alkali-beam diagnostics (Li, Na) for the injector and the observation system and detectors which resulted in strongly increased capabilities. Advanced systems have been built, and microsecond scale density profile, turbulence, and zonal flow measurement have been demonstrated. A novel edge current measurement technique has also been designed, and components have been tested with potential microsecond-scale time resolution. Additional possibilities of these advanced systems for spectral measurements (CXRS and various Zeeman schemes) are also discussed.

Viability of bifidobacteria in soft-frozen ice cream supplemented with a Saccharomyces cerevisiae cell wall product

The purpose of this research was to monitor the changes during storage in survival of bifidobacteria in a soft-frozen ice cream supplemented with a yeast cell wall-based product claimed to contribute to the functioning of the immune system. An ice cream mix was prepared and pasteurised. After overnight aging at 4 °C, it was inoculated with Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis Bb-12. Two batches of the mix were supplemented with a commercial Saccharomyces cerevisiae cell wall product at 2.0% and 4.0% (w/w), whereas a third batch was left unsupplemented and served as control. The final mixes were frozen, and the three products were stored at –13 °C for 7 days. The ice creams contained viable bifidobacteria cells at levels exceeding 106 CFU g–1 throughout the storage period. Although the yeast supplement decreased the loss of viability of bifidobacteria during frozen storage of ice creams, it imparted a slightly bitter off-flavour to the samples and it also negatively influenced the original white colour of the product, thereby necessitating further work to develop flavoured varieties of the Saccharomyces cell wall-containing synbiotic ice cream.

Objective well-being level (OWL) composite indicator for sustainable and resilient cities

Well-being is a critical element of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals. Given the complexity of the concept of well-being, it follows that its measurement requires complex, multivariate methods that can characterize the physical, economic, social and environmental aspects along with the mental state of a city. Although it is not sufficient to carry out settlement-level analyses to make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. It is necessary to understand patterns within settlements. This work aims to present how the urban macrostructure of urban well-being indicators can be estimated based on GIS-based multilayer analysis. Open-source data, e.g. road networks, points of interest, green spaces and vegetation, are used to estimate urban well-being parameters such as noise levels, air quality and health-related impacts supplemented by climate models to assess urban resilience and sustainability. The proposed methodology integrates 24 models into six categories, namely walkability, environment, health, society, climate change and safety, which are weighted based on a multilevel Principal Component Analysis to minimize information loss for aggregated composite indicators. The study revealed two main components of the macrostructure related to well-being in the studied city: one related to the geometrical features and the other can be derived from the structure of the natural environment. In Veszprém a natural restoration of the detached house area, industrial area and downtown is recommended including developments with green and blue infrastructural elements and nature-based solutions.

Model Calibration of High Damping Rubber Bearings: A Preliminary Mass Production Reliability Study

Over the past decade, Building Isolation Systems (BIS) have gain significant relevance due to their ability to reduce horizontal acceleration and interstory drifts in structures. Since the 1950s, researchers have focused on developing numerical models to simulate the dissipative behavior of High Damping Rubber Bearings (HDRB) in parallel major earthquake events have highlighted the need for BIS devices in medium and large-scale infrastructure, accentuating the need for further research into accurate models and adding the pressing interest in variability of mass-produced HDRB parameters. This study presents initial results from an identification process using two numerical models, validated using experimental tests at the SISMALAB laboratory. The experimental data involved eight samples subjected to compression forces and horizontal displacement. Optimal values were obtained through a Genetic Algorithm optimization process, minimizing discrepancies between experimental and numerical response. Preliminary variability analysis was conducted on data from 20 independent iterations over the eight samples.

DIGITALIZATION AND TOURISM: HOW X, Y, AND Z GENERATIONS MAKE TRAVEL DECISIONS IN THE ONLINE ERA

This study aims to explore the impact of digitalisation on the travel decision-making process of Generation X, Y, and Z, as well as to identify generational differences in tourism consumer behaviour. The research places particular emphasis on the role of information sources and variations in decision-making preferences. The study employs a quantitative research approach, analysing the travel decision-making habits of different generations through survey-based data collection. A literature review was conducted to examine intergenerational differences and the relationship between digitalisation and travel-related decision-making. Results and discussions: The findings indicate that digitalisation influences travel decisions across all generations, albeit in different ways. Trust and personal recommendations play a crucial role for Generation X, whereas Generation Y relies more heavily on online reviews. In the case of Generation Z, social media and digital channels have a decisive influence. The study also highlights that price remains a key factor for all generations; however, expectations regarding quality and information-seeking behaviours differ. Generation Y and Z exhibit a higher demand for visual content and real-time information, while Generation X tends to value reliability and detailed planning. Furthermore, the results show a clear trend toward mobile-first decision-making among younger users, especially within Generation Z. The study's findings contribute to the development of tourism marketing strategies by enabling the more effective application of generation-specific communication tools. Based on the results, recommendations can be made for tourism service providers regarding the optimisation of their digital presence and customer communication. The insights gained can also support designing personalised digital campaigns, enhance customer engagement, and foster loyalty among different generational segments in the evolving digital tourism landscape.

How to Develop a Sustainable Innovation Ecosystem? Example of ZalaZONE

The purpose of the paper is to analyse the typical research trends along the current challenges of the social, environmental and business aspects of sustainability and discuss the issues of geographically concentrated, park-like innovation ecosystems. At ZalaZONE Park as a consciously built innovation ecosystem, sustainability aspects are organically integrated into its development and into the operation approach, giving the empiric case for the research question. The ZalaZONE Energy Ecosystem Program connects the subject of sustainability with the innovation ecosystem on system level through innovative technologies and future-oriented environmental initiatives in various energy projects. In connection with this, it is also investigated is how new technologies support and ensure the long-term sustainability of the innovation ecosystem, and how the features of this relationship can be interpreted. Since ZalaZONE Park shows the characteristics of complex systems, the overall framework of the analysis is provided by the ecosystem model previously developed by the authors and further developed in the present analysis. Such a model contributes to each development step of the innovation ecosystem for sake of balanced and sustainability-oriented growth. Finally, an aggregated system model was presented including aspects of sustainability, with particular regard to the characteristics of complex systems.

The Impact of Digital Inequality on IT Identity in the Light of Inequalities in Internet Access

This article investigates the relationship between the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and Internet access, focusing on how digital connectivity influences the achievement of these global objectives. This research examines digital inequalities in access, usage, skills and outcomes through a mixed-methods approach, including statistical analysis and case studies. The findings indicate a strong correlation between Internet access and progression towards the European sustainability goals related to education quality, gender equality and industry innovation. In particular, it can be shown that where Internet access indicators are lower, digital literacy and IT identity scores are also lower for society as a whole, impacting both the quality of education and social mobility, while simultaneously reducing the economic competitiveness of the respective state. We can also see that these societies have a more patriarchal approach, negatively impacting the social status of women (although the COVID-19 epidemic negatively impacted social resilience, too) while further harming progress towards the Sustainable Development Goal associated with education. Significant disparities are also identified, particularly affecting rural areas, women, children and marginalised communities. The article futher explores IT identity, revealing that a strong IT identity enhances digital inclusion and empowerment. Article results highlight the necessity of addressing digital inequalities to ensure the equitable distribution of digital benefits and advocating for Internet access as a fundamental right essential to achieving global sustainability and Internet equality.

Nowadays convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have produced the state-of-The-Art performance in image classification and segmentation tasks. The efficiency of the neural networks is one of the bests when the testing samples are close to the training data. Nevertheless, if we make some transformation on the dataset, the performance of the convolutional neural network reduced. Recently, capsule networks (CapsNet) have been introduced to solve some of the problems of neural networks. In this paper we examine the effectiveness of three different capsule based neural networks, and compare the performance when the parameters of the dynamic routing algorithm and the squashing function are modified.
