Issue: Unknown

Page Range: 171-178

Description:

Today's professional teacher training system includes both professional and pedagogical preparation, the main aim of this training being to further develop the methodological part of the teacher training. In the last three decades, the institutional system and the content of Hungarian VET have been characterised by constant change, significantly influenced by the series of decisions and recommendations on VET in the EU. While continuous structural and content change has updated the VET infrastructure, and modern curricula have been developed, this modernisation has been accompanied by only modest digital and methodological changes. While all the development programmes implemented have made efforts to improve the methodological knowledge of vocational teachers, the results have been less visible in practice. Research on teaching methods and the methodological culture of professional teachers in vocational subjects has been scarcely reported in the professional press. At the same time, the learning environment has changed dramatically over the last decade, and the need for digital education has significantly altered the expectations of teachers in terms of teaching methods. The digital transformation of education is not a digitally-enhanced version of traditional teaching methods, but a new learning environment in terms of approach, requirements, methodology and assessment systems. In our study we want to present an empirical research and its results, as well as new directions for development, which aimed at partially overcoming this methodological gap at the University of Dunaújváros, In this context, we describe in detail the study that was carried out by means of a questionnaire survey and focus group interviews among engineering and vocational students of the institution in 2014 and 2024.

How Innovation Capability Drives Sustainable Operational Performance in Practices Within Alternative Food Networks: The Mediating Roles of Business Platforms and Community Building

Publication Name: Sustainability Switzerland

Publication Date: 2026-01-01

Volume: 18

Issue: 1

Page Range: Unknown

Description:

While previous research suggests that innovation capability can enhance sustainable operational performance in sustainable supply chain management practices, empirical insights into the mechanisms underlying this relationship remain limited. Drawing on dynamic capability theory, this study investigates how innovation capability influences sustainable operational performance within the context of Alternative Food Networks (AFNs). Utilizing matched survey data and objective performance metrics from 276 fruit and vegetable preserving and specialty food manufacturing firms in China, the study employed Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with bootstrapping techniques to test the mediating roles of business platforms and community building. The findings reveal that novelty-centered innovation capability has a significant positive effect on sustainable operational performance, with business platforms serving as a partial mediator in this relationship. In contrast, value-centered community building neither directly influences sustainable operational performance nor mediates the effect of innovation capability. Furthermore, the mediating effect of business platforms is found to be stronger than that of community building. This research presents a novel empirical framework that distinguishes the operational effectiveness of digital platforms in social community building within AFNs, providing managers with a strategic roadmap for prioritizing innovation investments to achieve sustainability.

Parallels and patterns in the Italian (1901) and Hungarian (1903) legislation on migration

Publication Name: Comparative Legal History

Publication Date: 2024-01-01

Volume: 12

Issue: 1

Page Range: 51-79

Description:

The second half of the nineteenth century was an era of mass labour migration in Europe, when the Atlantic route became of paramount importance alongside intra-continental mobility. From the last third of the century Italy and Hungary were among the most important emigrating countries. By this time changes in the regulation of migration had begun to take place with the development of stronger state control, which affected mobility and the relationship between emigrants and transporters. The question also arose as to whether and how the large emigrating states could ensure the loyalty of their emigrant citizens and control them en route and in the destination states. The regulatory process which began in the 1880s gradually moved from an administrative approach to the development of more comprehensive legal sources covering more and more aspects of emigration with the Hungarian government making use of foreign solutions, particularly the Italian Emigration Act of 1901.

Social Impact Assessment in Urban Security Management Projects: A Case Study from Pakistan

Publication Name: Academic Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies

Publication Date: 2024-01-01

Volume: 13

Issue: 1

Page Range: 33-56

Description:

Public safety and security management projects are devised to reduce crime, fear and calamities by prevailing law and order to reduce the harm in society. In a certain context, social impact assessment is a novel way to reveal the extent of effectiveness for these projects. This case study presents an Expert System based methodology regarding social impact assessment for two urban security management projects in Pakistan. An Expert System, DoctuS is employed as a tool to build a rule-based model tool using social impact attributes (as variables) from literature and expert knowledge (Author’s own insight as being involved in projects). Case-based reasoning (CBR) method is employed for the measurement of the impact of urban security management KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) in the two case projects. The empirical findings in this case study approaches the impact assessment by quantitative analysis of crime rates in JMP statistical package and Qualitative Expert knowledge-based model in DoctuS. Thereby, the study evaluates the pre and post ante project situations in order to assess the project’s effectiveness and impact on improved urban safety and security. In the first step, the projects are briefly described, followed by the crime rate analysis under the project jurisdictions and rules between attributes are defined. The second step defines the qualitative rule-based model along with the two cases described, and validated in DoctuS tool. Some attributes and rules have changed, and a new concise model is presented. The Expert System compares the project cases and evaluates the social impact assessment based on the defined KPIs. The Expert system validation presents a novel model for social impact assessment of subject urban security management projects. We propose this methodology and model as useful in investigating social impact assessment of projects specifically dealing with urban safety and security management. However, the generalizability of the findings of this case-study based articles need more sophisticated tests as recommendation for the extension to this study

Artifacts of grid-based electron structure calculations

Publication Name: Chemical Physics Letters

Publication Date: 2008-10-13

Volume: 464

Issue: 1-3

Page Range: 103-106

Description:

Electron structure calculations over equidistant grids represent physical observables by matrices usually chosen as the projection of the corresponding operator in the Schrödinger picture onto the subspace expanded by the basis set of the given grid resolution. It is shown that any matrix representation compatible with the translational symmetry of the lattice suffers from essential difficulties. Especially the momentum and related operators like the kinetic energy show anomalous behavior, moreover, the required canonical commutation relation can never be satisfied. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. The impact of tourism services development on income inequality in Kazakhstan’s regions

Publication Name: Problems and Perspectives in Management

Publication Date: 2026-01-01

Volume: 24

Issue: 1

Page Range: 318-331

Description:

This study investigates the relationship between tourism development and income inequality across regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan, using regional panel data for 2003–2024. The empirical analysis is based on an unbalanced panel of 16 regions, comprising 367 region–year observations. Fixed-effects regression models are employed to examine how two distinct dimensions of tourism development (tourism services per capita and tourist accommodation places per capita) affect income inequality measured by the regional Gini coefficient. The results indicate that the intensity of tourism service provision does not have a statistically significant effect on income inequality, even after controlling for cross-sectional dependence. In contrast, tourism accommodation infrastructure capacity is positively and statistically significantly associated with regional income inequality across all model specifications. Additional results show that income inequality is significantly influenced by poverty incidence, income polarization, healthcare expenditures, and the share of the rural population. The coefficients on the per-capita tourist accommodation variable are positive across all specifications. This indicates that the growth of this indicator contributes to increased income inequality. Moreover, the coefficients for the indicators ShServPop and ShServPop(–1) are significant. However, they cannot be relied upon, as Pesaran’s test rejects the hypothesis of cross-sectional independence for these specifications. This suggests that the growth of tourism infrastructure may exacerbate, rather than reduce, regional income differences due to capital concentration, skill-labor-oriented employment, and price effects. The results highlight the need for complementary policies that promote inclusive tourism development and mitigate inequality-enhancing effects of tourism-related infrastructure investment.

Effects of Reprocessing on Surface Oxidation and Microstructural Composition in Metal Injection-Molded Materials: Insights from SEM, EDX, and Metallographic Analysis †

Publication Name: Engineering Proceedings

Publication Date: 2024-01-01

Volume: 79

Issue: 1

Page Range: Unknown

Description:

This paper explores the evolving significance of metal injection molding (MIM) technology, particularly as a promising alternative for the precise and cost-effective manufacturing of small-scale, high-volume products in the automotive industry. Despite its growing adoption, the quality control processes for intermediate “green” parts and the final metal products are not yet well established, posing significant challenges in ensuring product reliability and consistency. Furthermore, the research thoroughly examines the recycling of MIM feedstock and its impact, especially on the change in carbon content. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) images were taken of the samples, the chemical composition was analyzed using Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX), and the pearlitic regions of samples from different generations were compared using image analysis software on microscopic cross-sections.

Sudden deaths of barn swallows (Hirundo rustica) caused by an invading cold front in September 2024 in Hungary

Publication Name: Magyar Allatorvosok Lapja

Publication Date: 2025-08-01

Volume: 147

Issue: 8

Page Range: 493-498

Description:

Background: The barn swallow (Hirundo rustica) is a migratory bird with a characteristic color, shiny black on the back, dirty white feathers on the belly, rust-red throat, weighing 17–20 g. This species mainly hunts flying insects, catching them in flight and the swallows are constantly hunting in the air between sunrise and sunset. As the food-scarce autumn season approaches, swallows gather in large flocks and when the daytime temperature drops permanently below 15 ºC, they leave for their wintering grounds in Africa. The birds are preparing for the migration, replenishing their body's fat depots. By the time of leaving, thebirds reach a body weight of 22–25 g, which enables them to travel thousands of kilometers. The metabolism of birds is fast, which is especially noticeable in smaller species. Shortterm starvation is already associated with a significant deterioration in nutritional status. Objectives: The carcasses of the swallows that were still alive at the time of capture, but died during transport were examined to identify to cause of sudden death. Materials and Methods: On September 16, 2024, 34 immobile and flightless swallows were delivered to the Clinic of the Department of Exotic Animal and Wildlife Medicine from the beach in Csopak, Hungary (46° 58′ 10.4″ N, 17° 56′ 13.9″ E). Five randomly selected carcasses of swallows were examined according to the standard pathological methods (dissection, histopathology, special stainings, bacteriological examination, PCR). Results and Discussion: During the dissection the body weight of the swallows delivered to the clinic was 12.0–13.0 g (12.6 g on average) which is around half of the normal bodyweight of these birds before migration. The supplementary examinations were negative for known pathogens and histopathology showed extreme lack of glycogen. According to the weather data from 11th of September 2024, a cyclone with significant cooling and heavy rainfall hit Hungary. The reason behind the death of the swallows was starvation caused by the sudden disappearance of the population of flying insects that could be caught by swallows due to cold and rainy weather. This case draws attention to the dangers of sudden extreme effects of global climate change in the case of some sensitive animal populations.

Description:

The rise of digital culture has fundamentally changed the way people learn in higher education. Online platforms, digital learning materials and various e-Iearning tools have become commonplace, significantly changing traditional learning methods. Access to information for students has never been easier: online courses, interactive videos and webinars allow flexible and personalised learning. At the same time, learners are moving from being passive recipients to active participants, as the use of interactive content and collaborative learning tools becomes more widespread. Digital methods offer new ways of acquiring and processing knowledge. Tools such as virtual reality (VR), artificial intelligence (AI)-based tutors and gamification-enhanced learning systems increase motivation and allow for a more personalised approach to learning materials. Higher education institutions are also increasingly open to innovation, with the introduction of online learning platforms and hybrid teaching models gaining ground. Through this transformation, higher education is no longer limited to classroom learning but is becoming a global process in the digital space. Our article explores these issues using our concrete tacit knowledge and experiences from higher education courses.
